As we all are well-aware, it is looking more and more like Grampa Simpson, I mean Joe Pa, won't be back after this season. Honestly, I'm a little saddened by that, but I do think it is for the best. I'd really like to see him take a Schembechler-type role for the program, but unfortunately I think there are too many collisions of egos to allow that happen. So, whatever happens will happen.

What I am excited about though is the potential staff Schiano will bring to Penn State. Oops, did I let the cat out of the bag? Or is more because of this:

So being that I apparently have heightened psychic abilities and know things that I have no way of knowing (this is what people tell me, I am not Edgar Cayce. Or Edgar Lee Masters. Or Edgar Winter.) then you can say that I have been recruiting for Penn State for like 5 years. This all goes back to my theory that I am the most underrated person to ever live, but we'll talk about that some other day.

I'll tell who is recruiting better than me, though: Larry Johnson. Yesterday, Penn State grabbed their ninth commitment. I guarantee you can guess his position and where he is from, based on the 2009 commitment board so far. Yes, he is a cornerback from Maryland. We now have 46 commitments, all of which are corners. But I digress.



Stephon Morris is from Greenbelt, same place as Derrick Williams, same place as another 09 commit named Derrick Thomas. Morris is flying under the radar because of his dwarfism. I am pretty sure I saw him on an episode of 'David the Gnome' when I was like 6. He is 5'9" 175, but he runs a 4.4 forty. Don't let the lack of height fool you, this kid is a real player. Scout says:

As a junior he made 38 tackles, broke up 18 passes, intercepted three passes, forced two fumbles and recovered one. He had four return touchdowns and also had 12 more scores on the offensive side of the ball.

Of the nine commitments so far in the 2009 Penn State recruiting class, 7 of them have been attained via Larry Johnson's hard and underrated work. The case is made for him. When Paterno is gone, which it looks like will be next season, Johnson's services must be retained. Unfortunately, I have a strong feeling that Bradley will not stick around when the High Command snubs him for an outside candidate, and in a perfect world, I can't imagine why the new coach would want to get rid of Johnson or Vanderlinden. Or Kermit Buggs. The rest of them can have a good time collecting unemployment. Larry Johnson has earned his stripes and deserves that defensive coordinator's job. Vanderlinden is no spring chicken either, and he may retire when Paterno goes. As for a linebackers coach and keeping Linebacker U intact? LaVar Arrington is doing absolutely nothing right now. How's that make you feel when you visualize the defensive recruiting boost?



It's going to get real interesting over the next year.
