So how many recruits does that make for Rutgers "who have not played a single down of football as a senior" ? I mean these are kids who have been offered scholarships and have not played a minute since October/November of 2007. How many of these kids were made to look good by the seniors they played with last year? Sure it's nice that kids have become interested in Rutgers, but what are we going to see from them as seniors. You take a chance giving them scholarships on potential.

See, it doesn't matter if you're right or not, Moldo. What you are saying is rational. But the way this recruiting game is played, is a lot different than your rational opinion. Take Penn State for example. All those years PSU bumbled around in recruiting and never jumped out early to grab kids. Now, they realized... finally... what the mistake may have been. A lot of kids commit to the first school who offers them a scholarship, or they default back to that school when the recruiting process is all said and done. It also helps get OTHER kids if your class looks good. So Rutgers landing Savage (QB) early could result in a few WR's committing down the stretch. It's all a game, and thats why I'm so fascinated by it.

It's only going to get worse. We laugh now at how UK has two basketball commits for 2011 when one of those kids doesn't even know where he'll be playing in HIGH SCHOOL yet. But it is getting to the point where recruiting is more and more important and you have got to be on the ball with it 365 days a year.

A 4-star CB for example, is not just going to have a mental meltdown and lose his job as a starter on his HS team. I know it is strange to view it this way, but you basically have to view these kids as mathematical equations. Okay, so we have a kid from Mount Carmel, a TE we'll say, who's size we'll rate as a 5 out of 5. His strength and speed, we'll give them a 5 and a 4. He just got a 14 out of 15 in physicality alone. Now, can he catch? Let's give him a 4. How about blocking? 4. Smarts? Eh, 3. It's just a numbers game where the math equals potential. Remember, we are offering "potential" not "Jim Smith the TE".
