I Want to Stay in Pittsburgh... if you Pay Me Enough.
Marian Hossa, the guy the Pens gave up a ton to acquire, the guy who led the Pens playoffs in points, said at the conclusion of the finals that he wanted to stay in Pittsburgh. He even said he'd take a pay cut to do so. Well, apparently 7 years and 49 million was not enough for Hossa. Have a nice life.

can you really blame the guy? most of the intelligent penguin faithful knew when that deal was made, it was only going to be until the end of the season and then he'd be off to wherever there's more money. personally, i say with 7 mil a year you can get a couple of quality guys rather than one super star that seems to be very prone to injury. so good riddance.

Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.

Th thing that irked me was the way he handled it. I can't stand when athletes say things just to keep up appearances. "Yeah, I love Pittsburgh, I'll take a pay cut to stay." But this worked out well, I think. Because now, we don't have to worry about them chasing Hossa and missing out on 2-3 other players they could have focused on. That was my big worry. Still though... 7 years and 49 million?

If you really like a town, 7 years and $49 million should be enough to get a deal done.

Hossa hadn't missed a game in over 2 season's due to injury until he joined the Pen's in February. The guy is a horse. To say he wouldn't be worth the 7 million a year is idiotic.
