ESPN sucks. Stephen A. Smith is an idiot. Outside the Lines is the worst sports show on television. We are 1 month from kickoff and all we are talking about is how a Punter in the WAC got arrested for public drunken-ness, or a kid in Conference USA might not have his grades in order. There are 119 stories right now that need to be told. We've heard about 3 honest stories.

I do agree with you, TAE, that ESPN isn't exactly lighting the world on fire with good updates on College Football. The only good thing on there right now are the blogs from each conference. They are a good read, but other than that it's all suspensions and so on.

TAE may have mentioned this earlier, but what ESPN does is lazy reporting. It is easy to search the police and Judical Affairs reports to see who got in trouble with the law and report it.

It is not as easy to report how teams in the Big Ten are preparing to defend the spread offense with probably 5 teams running a good bit of it this year (Mich, Ohio State, Penn State, Indiana, at least one other). Why not do an article on how Cincinatti, Rutgers, UCONN, and WVU all surging as programs has effected Ohio State, Penn State, Pitt, and Boston College in recruiting? Why not do a report on how Indiana is slowly turning into a solid program right after losing their head coach to cancer? How about reports on how Kansas, Missori, Illinois, Wake Forest, South Flordia, and Kentucky plan to continue their recent success and how their success has effected other programs in their area i.e. Nebraska, Michigan, Flordia State? What about BYU becoming the UTAH, Boise State, Hawaii of this season?

I thought of all of these topics sitting for about 5 minutes in front of my computer without a college degree in journalism and you mean to tell me ESPN can not do any better than what they are? Besides this Outside the Lines story of the apt fight happened like a year ago and it is just now turning into a big story.

The funniest thing about that whole OTL show was that idiot student talking about that fight like Richard Speck (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Speck) came in there, tied all those kids up, and killed all of them. Get serious. And you can't tell me that that kid was just sitting there with his mouth shut and a player just grabbed a bottle and broke it over his head. Anybody who has been 21 yrs old and drinking knows how things go down when there's a fight. Everyone is talking "crap" in the room and heightening the situation.

And all 21 year old kids embellish fight stories!!!

Listen: there has to be a reason why Scirrotto's gf kicked that dude in his Vienna sausage. And after seeing that idiot in that interview, I was actually kind of glad she did it.

The one thing you are missing TAE is that these guys are getting a free ride to go to college at Penn State University and still putting themselves in very bad situations. We all know that college is college and things happen, but can these kids not control themselves at least a little bit? Anyway, I saw two PSU players were kicked off the team today. I guess OTL put a little bit of pressure on JoePa to make some decisions, which might not be a bad thing. A little discipline may make them thing twice.

What OTL did not do with this interview is get both sides of the story? Why not interview Scirrotto's gf? They interviewed Scirrotto and he accepted his actions without making excuses. Any one of you mean to tell me that when you were 19, 20, 21 and your best bud calls you up and says someone was harassing his gf you wouldn't turn into kick **** mode. That dad on there expected these kids to be burned at the stake for something that happens to 50% of college males. Maybe next time tell your kid not to harass the Safety's girlfriend. Also, it is not like Penn State had no punishment at all most of the players on that list of 61 were suspended for at least one game.

Granted, if my kid got a bottle broke over his head, I'd be upset too. But theres no chance in hell that that kid sat there quietly while his friend's got beat up behind him. I still want to know why Scirrotto's girlfriend gave that idiot a ninja kick in his ying yang.

Baker has had a bunch of situations, so its probably good he's off the team. Other than that, what are they supposed to do?

for years all people heard was how clean of a program psu was. but in fact they are and were as guilty as the rest of the thug schools. joepa admitted it on espn. he said this stuff has been going on for years there. now people want to glorify everything. all the other major programs with problems have been pointed out on espn or other media outlets at one time or another (miami, fsu, osu, smu, okla. and others). Now it happens to psu's turn and no one can believe joepa would be in such a situation. nor do they want to believe joepa would recruit an kid with problems. think about it. psu is located in the mountains of central pa with only 2, maybe 3 newspapers in close proximity to cover them. most schools in the bigger cities/areas have many more papers looking for a good story. the altoona mirror and centre daily times sure arent going to do any 'investigative' reporting on joepa or psu. niether will the patriot out of harrisburg. good job by espn for exposing this. it happens every where at every school. psu just hasnt had it exposed like the others until now.
lets face it, joepa wants to spank bobby bowdens a$$ in total wins so he is going to recruit every thug/athlete he can, to win some ball games. if a kid wants a good education 1st and play football 2nd he will go to the ivy leagues not psu. psu is a football factory like the rest. they are taking 2nd rate students that are good athletes. why else would he still be coaching? i think joepa's ego is about as big as his eyeglasses.
that was no witch hunt by espn -- only the facts being brought out. negative or not, that is the situation at psu.

bcc, none of these kids had a criminal record in high school. How can you say all they are doing is recruiting thugs?
