The only people who have believed for the last 10 years about PSU's squeaky clean program are in nursing homes. Making statements about people coming to reality about the program is mute. If they are still out there, then they have been living under rock for twenty years and have glasses thicker than Paterno's.

It's sad to see it happen, but it was gonna happen sooner or later. He's just not able to relate to these kids nowadays. Things are just different. They never changed with the times, and that doesn't just mean on the field.

Ham u r correct, I am very new to this site but I have been able to see u r a big psu supporter. If you didnt love joepa and psu u probably wouldnt have brought up the georgia post. admit it ur lions are as crooked as your nemisis OSU and MEECHIGAN! U hate to see it! Joepa is crooked and u know it. How else r u guys gonna ever beat the rest of the big 10 (i mean 11). Let's make this whole thing really simple:

Read one of JoePa's biographies where he talks about "not leaving college football to the Switzers and Sherrills of the world." It's that kind of arrogance and sanctimonious attitude that erodes JoePa's credibility with the public, his peers, and even the most ardent PSU supporters.

True, ESPN "Outside the Lines" often seems like seedy, shoddy reporting; but the truth remains: Over 60 players have been arrested in recent years, and many have been found guilty, of numerous offenses, ranging from "Animal House/frat boy stuff" to underage drinking (Hey, nobody got hurt, right JOKEpa??), to felonies (like shooting arrows at others, rape, etc.) JoePa was doing damage control in that interview, finally (half-a**edly) admitting that there are problems within his program and that there have been for some time. In this interview, The Jokester basically codified and reinforced what almsot everyone except the blind Nitters know to be true: JOKEpa has a PHONY, USED CAR SALESMAN persona.

ham55 says, "Keep acting like PSU is the only team in the Nation facing these problems"...Well, ham, JokePa and many of the PSU faithful have acted for YEARS like they are the only program in the nation NOT HAVING THESE PROBLEMS!!!! Read The Jokester's books.

It's not PSU football that most people are sick of, it's the "Holier than thou/We do no wrong/We are perfect/Look at how BAD everyone else is!" attitude of JoePa and many PSU followers.

JokePA and PSUers shouldn't throw boulders when they live in glass houses...

Bottom line is, no program is clean anymore. They can't be. Athletes today are molded,trained,and coddled from an earlier age than ever before. The better ones that are good enough to recieve d-1 scholarships are already "buttheads" for lack of a better term. I know, there are good kids everywhere, but the percentages have changed. 30 years ago 10 to 20 % of scholarship athletes may get into some sort of trouble,legal or academic. Nowadays 10 to 20 % don't. With every school having 85 scholarship players per team, nobody is gonna go without a few making the police report, doesn't matter if it's Mark Richt,Paterno,Carrol, Mack Brown, or the mustache at Pitt.Every college is in a glass house on this one.

Eagle is right about every program is under major scrutiny these days because of problems off the field. Some are better at handling it than others. I know Texas changed one of their coach's jobs to keep an eye on the kids while Mack cannot be in contact with them during the offseason. They actually stayed out of trouble for an off-season. Last season Texas had multiple off the field problems that really hurt their depth. I think more teams should take this approach. You will never be able to keep a whole team out of trouble, but putting people in the right position to keep an eye on the players as much as possible can't be a bad thing.
