how about some Week 1 chatter???
how about some Week 1 chatter???
I feel like the quality of some of the local teams right around Bedford county are better than they've been in the last few years and this should make things very interesting in week 1.
Matchups I'm very interested in:
1. NBC @ Mo Valley- NB lost a lot from a year ago, but has a lot of capable replacements. MV could have easily been 7-3 instead of 6-4 a year ago. They return a ton of starters and look to be a top 5 D6A team. I'm excited to see how this plays out.
2. Everett at Glendale- The Warriors haven't been real good lately, but I think they rebound nicely this year. I saw Glendale this past weekend and was really impressed by what they bring to the table as well. I think this is going to be an excellent week 1 matchup as well. Glendale has size and gets after it. Everett has lots of good skill guys.
3. TM @ Juniata Valley- No Donaldson for TM, so how do they respond? I think McMurtrie and Neuder are going to be sufficient and the line is solid. JV lost some guys, but their single back is an ox. Can he take this JV team on his back in these toss up games?
4. Ridge @ Windber- The Shoemaker era gets going. Windber returns a ton of guys from last year's 5A semifinalist team. Again, I see this as another big tossup.
5. Bellwood @ Tyrone- Both are expected to contend for titles in District 6 A and AA respectively. Tyrone usually comes out ahead in this one, but B-A is a team good enough to beat them. If nothing else, I expect a huge crowd as always for this game.
6. Mt. Union @ Huntingdon- MU was on the verge of being pretty good a year ago. They return a lot of the core from a year ago. Huntingdon struggled. I think the Bearcats are probably the favorite here for sure. A big question in my mind is how does Mt Union respond to an early loss if they get beat. They have seemed to be a team that tanks after a couple of bad weeks. If they start of strong and upset Huntingdon they will be a tough out all year. A little confidence will do this team wonders.
I know week 1 this year is really exciting. There are lots of toss up games and a whole bunch of question marks. I'm just glad that it is for real this Friday night.
Any other opinions on these games????

Re: how about some Week 1 chatter???
MU should be a playoff team this year. If they play up to potential and stay healthy they should be 8-2 at worst going into the playoffs. H-don folks are already talking about Tyrone, this could turn into a landmine for the 'Cats if they aren't careful.
NBC/Mo Valley could be a good one. Fetzers' boys should be pretty good this year.
Tyrone/B-A will be a doozy as usual, playoff atmosphere for week 1.I believe Tyrone has more pressure to win in this one. They got a rival at home, a 32 game regular season win streak, and 3 straight tough road games in week 2(H-don),3(Central Mountain), 4(Clearfield).Tyrone needs this one, and if they can make a statement in doing it all the better.
3 more days....here we go. Good luck to all!(except B-A)

Re: how about some Week 1 chatter???
I'm so stoked for football to begin again. I think we have a great team coming back from a 3-6 campaign that we only really got blown out twice last year, once against Juniata Valley and once against Penns Valley. Penns Valley is off the schedule in favor of Bellwood-Antis, so there is no real drop off in competition there, but Moshannon Valley is gone as well in favor of Williamsburg. Like Coach said we've always been a team that rides emotions. We don't have the depth to keep our players fresh throughout the game a lot of times and we crumble in the fourth quarter.
Hopefully the come out strong on Friday, Huntingdon is ripe for the picking this year.

Coach, who is the quarterback for NBC this season?
Re: how about some Week 1 chatter???
At NB, junior Joe Risbon is the quarterback. Sophomore D. Troutman had a nice camp as well and could be called upon if needed.

Does anyone know what the major changes at Ridge have been? Anything new or unusual? Nb vs M Valley has a lot of potential to go down to the wire. Does Glendale have skill players and does Everett have a line? Who will be the feature back at tussey this year?
Re: how about some Week 1 chatter???
Coveman... I have seen Glendale and they have a nice team from top to bottom, but they do not have depth. I think they have 24 players. Their backs are big and punishing and their QB is solid.
TM's best backs will probably be Neuder and McMurtrie.
