when d5 and d6 split about 4 years back 6 went east because there are hardly any single A teams out there.

I don't understand this. How did BC play Southern Columbia that one year in the state final. Or am I making an error wit something.

It was just recent that they made the bracket change.
It used to be D5/D6 (for a few years we got some good Carroll/Windber matchups) all in one so the winner remained in the west. So Carroll did get to play So.Columbia
But d6 shifted east to play d3
d5 got to stay over here and they play the WPIAL champ in the first round.
