Lions add #17 and #18

Post by frostlion »

Linebacker Glenn Carson, and athlete Devon Smith.

Also some "rumors" about a certain Tennessee WR verbal thinking about de-committing and going to the Lions.

I doubt he decommits from Tennessee, but I do think Tyree Watkins will decommit from Virginia.

UT boards are in complete and total meltdown. I really don't follow UT football, but am a bit surprised at how far they seem to have fallen of late.

Well, they are breaking in a new OC, and that will take a year or so. I'm surprised how bad Crompton has looked. I hate to say this but if Bostick would have went to UT when they were pushing hard for him, he'd be the starter right now. Same might even be said for Devlin and Miami.

Tennessee almost beat Auburn. They'll jump on someone this year, but I doubt they finish with less than 3 losses.

Have you heard anything about Watkins? I saw he made his verbal "soft" recently. I dont know why anyone would go to UVA right now. There's no doubt in my mind that Groh is getting the axe. That team looks ridiculous.

Has anyone thought about what might happen to PSU's recruiting year if PSU ends up ranked nationally in the top 5? I mean they've already committed to 18 kids. Only about 4 of them are 4 star recruits. How many scholarships do they have left to give out for this recruiting year? That's the problem of getting kids TOO early in the recruiting season. PSU is committed to them. What if PSU finishes #1, 2, or 3? Who will they miss out on when most of their openings are given away already? All that clout will be for nought because they gave away too many scholarships to average kids too soon.

It doesn't matter. Those kids dont sign until February. They've already turned a kid away after offering him a scholarship for next season. Plus, they have a ton of scholarships available. When they had about 14-15 kids, one site reported that "half the class is assembled".

How many scholarships are remaining at PSU? I know there's not an exact number, but I am looking for an estimate.

I'd say 10.

Just checked PSU's pre-season roster for 2008. There were 21 players listed with senior eligibility. Take away Sean Lee (who was red-shirted) and that gives you 20. So when they graduate, there will be 20 scholarships available for next year. Now I'm no math major, but that leaves 2 left if 18 have committed already. Now I know that some underclassmen may quit, maybe even some will be dismissed for extra-curricular activities. But there's no way PSU will give out 28 scholarships for this upcoming recruiting season. And who really wants such a top-heavy recruiting class? If you give out 28 in one particular year, that leaves only 57 for 3 other years (85 total scholarships). My guess is PSU has only about half a dozen left. Again, they may seriously miss out on the clout that comes with a high national ranking at season's end. They gave away too many too soon.
