I'm going to throw another school out there for A ball that not many people are talking about. Bishop Guilfoyle is having a nice season, with a couple tough losses (gave McCort their only scare this year), and is sitting at 4-3 right now. With 16 teams getting in the Single A field...BG is going to pose a tougher than usual early test for one of the top seeds. With their ability to throw the ball, I really think they could give Portage problems.

With all that aside, I think McCort is proving week after week they are the clear favorite in Single A. Regarding all this whoopla over "Westpac teams get no respect"...those of us who have followed HS football for years know that we've "saw this show before". I've been a Portage advocate saying that they are a good team, but they are not going to up end the Crushers. I could really go into a long post here...but it can be summed up real easy. Remember Bishop Carroll's dominance in Single A in the early 2000's? Substitute McCort for Carroll, fast forward the dial to 2008 and the rest will be history by Thanksgiving.

In AA, with a field of teams who all have some weaknesses, you have to like a Coach who has been there before. I think this year it is really going to be interesting how the bracket shakes out. The OG really thinks the bracket is going to have a lot to say in who wins this thing. This year I really think teams match up differently, and there may not be a heads above the rest team, which will make things very interesting.

IMO Forest Hills, Tyrone, and Central Cambria are all very capable of winning it all, or getting upset in the first round. Richland is a team that scares me with their ability to throw the ball. If Nate Adams (a name most have forgot about) gets healthy, this team becomes a very dangerous first round opponent. Same can be said with Ernie Fetzer and PC.

With all this being said...the OG has said it before...Tyrone is the team to beat in AA.

Westmont is out due to their refusal to play Joe Ward in every position so heres how its going to boil down
A- Bishop McCort over anybody
AA- Central Cambria over Forrest Hills due to centrals dominance over them early in the season
AAA- who cares
AAAA- do they even have this in D6

AA-I believe it will be Fh vs. either Tyrone or CC how the standings are now. If it is FH vs. CC FH will ome to play and the tea speed concept will be huge for FH on a non muddy field.

i read someone picked portage to win single A. I really dont care who wins but being that I still work in the football field (And not high school!) I think portage beating any team from the LHAC is an uphill battle (not impossible but uphill battle). They dont have the yearly talent or tradition or program to beat bishop mccort if it came down to it. I know the past couple of seasons the college football radar from more than just my college affiliate has had its eye on mccort talent. Not portage or hardly any team from the west pac. The one back that was competing with stephens-howling coming out a couple of years ago for Berlin was said to be just as good as howling (let a west pac fan tell it.lol). That kid didn't even make it a full year at IUP and definitely didn't crack the two deeps (My information is correct I got mine from the scouting report). And besides Shope, Jeremy Burkett, and a couple of other west pac alums he was one of the best to come out of that conference in years. The Slatcoffs were good too and couple of other winber products but even them players didn't have any college production. If someone can name 6 players from the same program that are still playing college football from the westpac i'd be surprised..

Real Talk since when did your tradition as a school, your program and yearly talent come into beating a team. Back in 93 when FH made it to the western finals game and played Aliquippa NO ONE thought this team had a chance people were talking about FH losing by thirty. Aliquippa was and still is a perenial powerhouse in the WPIAL. They had the likes of Ty Law, played in the NFL and was one of the best in his prime, and also two others that played either big D1 or somewhere in the NFL (sorry the information blurred out). FH ended up beating them and going to the state championship.

Sorry to say if you think that is the case then every team around here should just quit there programs. Once out of winning A or AA or even AAA in this region you are always thrown into the pit in a game where the team is outsized you way faster and has way more tradiiton.

You have to have the will to win and love the game. If you play with heart then anything can happen.

The Quips' Chico Williams had like 5,000 career yds rushing for Ali, FH held him to 60. I believe the other big name on that team, other than Law, who actually won the game for Ali, was Sean Gilbert, H-U-G-E lineman, like 6-7, 300+ . Can someone verify these statements/ disprove them?
