I just want to know what Lesnar did to earn this title fight. There are guys out there who were much more deserving of the shot than Lesnar, but he got the opportunity just because of his name. A good submission fighter would take care of Lesner (Meer). Although I must admit, his punches are absolutely devestating.

Cotoure is over the hill, heck he tried to retire not long ago but was forced to fight the last two fights of his contract. I predict Lesnar loses the title in his next fight, unless it's against a cupcake. It seems to me that the UFC brass just wanted to see a big name like Lesnar on top. I'm hoping this sport doesn't become corupt like boxing did...

He used his skillful wrestling for a great reversal after Randy had reversed him. As he improves on his feet, he will be a stud. His wrestling is top notch as you know and he was very controlled and patient last night. Against Mir he came out like a goof and was out of control. He had Mir rocked too but screwed up and got beat. He is no Kimbo. This guy can actually do some things.

I agree, Coach, Lesnar has more potential than anyone the sport has ever seen. But I just don't think he earned the title shot after posting a 2-1 career record. He has all the tools, great collegiate wrestler, devistating punches, size, speed, athleticism.....

But there are guys out there who are much more established than Lesnar is at this point in his career.

and yes, he was beating the piss out of Mir until Mir latched onto the ankle and Lesnar said uncle.

exactly.. I agree with you. I'm not sure how he earned a title shot except for the pure fact that the HWT division is pretty cruddy right now.

He earned it because there's no heavyweights and because the people who ARE there all suck. Who deserved it more than Lesnar? He has to defend it against someone, guys.

"A good submissions guy will beat Lesnar" that is completely false. The only thing that will hurt Lesnar is his cardio. That fight would have went 3 rounds, Couture would have beaten him based on stamina alone. Not even 1 minute into the second round, Lesnar was looking at the clock.

Just because he's 3-1 and is still learning doesn't mean he isn't the best guy there. Arlovski isn't even there anymore, Silvia is a joke and always has been, who's left? Frank Mir? Lesnar lost to Mir because he was over zealous and didn't know what he was doing. If they fight again, Frank Mir is gonna get hammered. He'll be wishing he was still laying around his house getting fat as hell after that leg injury.

You both make good points, the heavyweight division isn't as strong as other divisions currently. Who will Lesnar's first title defense be against? Gabriel Gonzaga?

Brock Lesnar wrestled in the WWE, played in the NFL, and now is a UFC champ. What a well-rounded individual. He has to be the first to do all three of these.

Brock is a great wrestler no doubt and his striking has gotten a great deal better, but if he gets into a match with someone of Mir's Jujitsu caliber, and better take down defense he's gonna be in trouble. But I agree the heavy weights right now are none existent. I'd love to see Lesner toe to toe with Andre Orlavski, there are just no heavy wights in the UFC that are any good. I also have no idea how he got a title shot except for the fact that he sells tickets.
