Windber vs. Juniata Valley
Windber played very well despite having only 7 players, they are missing 9 players because of football. They are missing 1 starter in Mike Clark, and players such as Jarid Cover and Mitchel Grohal that could be key off the bench. I heard Windber handled them pretty well, but have no idea how good Juniata is. Hopefully its a good sign for the Windber faithful coming off their worst season since 1969

Re: Week 1 Scrimmages
The Tri-Scrimmage Between Johnstown, Gateway, and Alderdice was a grading scale for the Trojans. We know Gateway is going to be good, and Alderdice should have a solid year in the Pittsburgh City League. What we didnt know is how would Johnstown stack up against the bigger better schools before the start of the season.
What we learned was the talent level is right there, and the Trojans def have the guns to compete with the big dogs. We also learned that fundamentally Johnstown has a long way to go in the learning curve of basketball. Johnstown got to see zone from Alderdice, which they will see alot of this year, but not everyone has the athletes Alderdice has to play a zone. Then they got to play against a very talented Gateway teams who ran alot of screens and played a physical style of basketball. Which teams will try to play against Johnstown as well. In all honesty Gateway and Alderdice probobly will not get any better playing Johnstown, but as a favor to coach Roman they invited the Trojans down to help the Trojans get better.
Overall grade
Gateway B+
Johnstown C
Alderdice C

Re: Week 1 Scrimmages
I know WPIAL basketball, particularly AAAA, and in all honesty, neither Gateway nor Allderdice are very good WPIAL/City League AAAA basketball programs.
Gateway has been down for several years, since their former coach Holzshu left, and Allderdice has had a few decent years, but nothing to write home about.
I saw Allderdice play this fall and I wasn't impressed. I saw Gateway play last year, and they were a poor AAAA team, I don't recall any great young players that they had either. Maybe I am missing something.
IMO, they will be two average teams. I disagree, gateway and Allderdice will get better by playing Jtown, because Jtown is probably better than both of them.
You say Gateway is "very talented"? As compared to what? Maybe other teams in the LHAC, but in WPIAL AAAA, they have below average talent.

Re: Week 1 Scrimmages
If I am not mistaken, Gateway has one of the top freshmen in the country. Rivals recently ran a story on this kid and how his stock is rising daily. The big boys are interested. I saw them this summer and they were long and athletic.
