It's Not Rocket Science, Folks.
Iowa State hires Paul Rhoads as the new football coach. As members of BC, you should all be delighted. This guarantees I will not be leaving this site anytime soon.
"Paul Rhoads is an outstanding and intelligent football coach, a highly successful national recruiter and has nearly 10 years of experience as a BCS coordinator," Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard said in a statement on Saturday. "He was the one candidate that clearly demonstrated both extensive experience and an extreme passion for and familiarity with our institution. In addition, and most importantly, he also has a comprehensive plan for how to be successful at Iowa State."
Let's talk about that, shall we?
Paul Rhoads is an outstanding and intelligent football coach, who's refusal to make game adjustments continually placed both Pitt and Auburn behind the 8-ball time and time again. Was it stubborness, stupidity, or both?
a highly successful national recruiter... wait, what??? What the ****???? Based on what?! Because Wanny had ties to south Florida when he was HEAD COACH OF THE DOLPHINS? Pitt brought in 3 kids from Florida, just like every other program in the nation, and Rhoads gets credit????
has nearly 10 years of experience as a BCS coordinator, where the knock on Pitt was always their inability to make adjustments, and at Auburn... Man, can you name me a program that is more worthless than Auburn right now?
He was the one candidate that clearly demonstrated both extensive experience and an extreme passion for and familiarity with our institution, because he was the only person we even interviewed!!!!!!
In addition, and most importantly, he also has a comprehensive plan for how to be successful at Iowa State. Folks, I could not be more serious when I say I cannot wait to see how a bonehead like Paul Rhoads thinks he is going to turn around the worst program in the country.
Iowa State pulled another Iowa State. Seriously, how do these AD's even get their jobs? Iowa State sucks at every sport!!!!!
I'll give Rhoads 3 seasons. He would get 2 elsewhere, but you have to add in the "Retard Effect" that ISU demonstrates, which will give Rhoads another year. Aye carumba and double yoy all at once.

I seen this and I about busted a gut laughing. WTF are they thinking? I think TAE said in the Auburn thread "7-5 forever" well for ISU its gonna be 2-10 forever.

Paul Rhoads is a terrible coordinator. This guy has all his cred based on one defensive performance against WVU when Pat White didn't play. You don't hear about this, do ya?
Before 2008 season:
"Unfortunately, what you don’t hear is how Pitt’s defense gave one of the worst performances Anno Domini when they gave up 641 yards in 2006. In ‘05, they did a little better, only giving up 492. In ‘04, they allowed 360 yards, but won the game. In ‘03, it was 523 yards. Pitt hasn’t had a winning season, even in what many consider the weakest BCS conference, since Walt Harris’ last season in 2004. That year, under Rhodes’ defensive genius, Pitt was slaughtered in the Fiesta Bowl by Utah. They only gave up 467 yards in that one."
Name me another "great coordinator" who doesn't make game adjustments. Now, it would maybe seem to me that making game decisions can qualify you as a great coordinator.
Iowa State is not an anomaly that cannot get their feet on the ground. Don't get sucked into that crap. They are a BCS team who has irrational mindsets at the top of their athletics. They have bad management, no cred b/c of said management, and they fired Dan McCartney after taking them to 4 or 5 bowl games. They hired Gene Chizik, who took UT to a national title, and UT peeps in the program were glad he was gone!!!! That was a terrible hire. So is Paul Rhoads. And on top of all that, Iowa State's logo and uniforms are ridiculous. They have an image problem.
What Iowa State needs to do is find a gimmick offense that can jumpstart them into winning a couple games they shouldn't win. There's coaches out there who can do it. That's how Leach did it, that's how Johnson did it at Navy, that's how Fisher did it at Air Force, and that's what Army is going to have to do. Get an OFFENSIVE guy who can recruit HIS SYSTEM and make yourself stand out from the rest of the teams that defenses have to scheme against. Once you get to that point, then worry about the rest. They need a unique approach. Paul Rhoads is not capable of that.
We have seen plenty of examples of teams who were dog "crap" and all of a sudden they find their guy. Ball State and Buffalo for example, recently. FIU will be a bigtime SBC contender under Cristobal. Don't ever fall victim to the "aw shucks, we just can't compete" nonsense. They could compete if they had the ambition to do it. And let me tell you something, when you interview 1 guy and you offer him the job, that's not "ambitious".

This is another strange hire. Good luck to Paul in the Big 12. I give him 2 years at the most. I guess they thought bringing in a bad Defensive Coordinator would help them out.
