Re: Can They Do It?
Texas had only a handful of NBA players before T.J. They had a few great seasons, but they were few and far between. After T.J. they have had Lamarcus Aldridge, Kevin Durant, and D.J. Augustin. Throw in Damion James who will be in the NBA next season. Hmm...I wonder if they committed because they saw the program was headed in the right direction with winning and putting players in the NBA. Not to mention they have two of the best recruits in the Nation coming in with their 2009 class. They weren't getting NBA talent until Ford led them to a Final Four and was drafted high in the NBA Draft. These recruits aren't fooled as easily as you are. You have to outrecruit the worst team in your conference to win games. PSU can't do that.

Re: Can They Do It?
Hence the must for a change in course if they want to be competitive. If they dont want to be, then i guess mission accomplished.
Hey deliverance, good thing you were never born a fish, because you take every piece of bait thrown remotely in your way. So let me get this straight... I am saying that Penn State has no basketball tradition, and needs to make a mentality adjustment if they want to compete. I also said, twice and now three times, that I personally feel DeChellis CAN get them to the hump, but not over it.
Before Tom Penders took over at Texas in 1988, the UT program was not in the gutter, but they were bad. They made the decision to get better at basketball. Penders got the team to the hump, but not over it. Now, Rick Barnes was the guy who could take a hold of that program and make them great, like they pretty much are in this decade.
Yet this plan will never work. Just like you can't win games at Buffalo, Nebraska, George Mason, or Cal-State Fullerton.
Thank you for allowing me once again to look like a genius. This cap is getting kinda full though.

Re: Can They Do It?
Maybe the location BRINGS IN recruits to PSU instead of working in reverse. This season PSU has 3 true freshman. One came from that great metropolis Arlington, Texas. One came from Chatham, NJ. One came from Westminster, MD. Maybe, to them, State College is the hub of entertainment. Freshman Billy Oliver from Chatham is quoted as saying, "It was the atmosphere that brought me here". The one from Westminster said, "It's cool that I'm going to be playing in the games I see now on TV". Whoopee-Woo!!!! Too bad so many of the nations top basketball talents come from bigger towns and cities. For this upcoming year, PSU has signed 2 kids so far, one from Lewisberry, Pa. While kids from NYC are staying away from State College, kids from Lewisberry are showing up. (By the way, the kid from Lewisberry has NO stars).

No, you made it seem like it was easy to do. You know nothing about College Basketball. Keep talking, though. We have seen all year how much you know about College Football, too. One of these days you'll get something right. It won't be PSU basketball, though.

Re: Can They Do It?
I love how "mr college football" conveniently forgets Terrelle Pryors comment at the press conf. Did he or did he not say psu was "too country"?? Come on TAE, I figured u would have been at that press conf.
I am sure he had a couple other reasons for not going but u gotta love his quote.

Re: Can They Do It?
Hey, he made the right choice. Even if PSU was in a city, they still have JayPa as the QB coach. Pryor is a smart kid, he did the right thing. But I think PSU has done a pretty good job at getting players to State College.

Re: Can They Do It?
PSU can get good players for football because they get them to the next level. They aren't known as Linebacker U for no reason. The same can't be said for their Men's Basketball program. Oh wait, they're just one step away.

Re: Can They Do It?
They are many steps away. But you gotta take the FIRST step before the second or third. Them even acknowledging they have a men's basketball team is 100% more than they did 5 years ago.

Re: Can They Do It?
TAE, you keep forgeting Terrelle Pryor called Penn State too country. That obviously means that PSU has no chance at being good at basketball ever.
