I'm not saying one player can make THAT big of a difference. I'm saying put a player of Runk's caliber on CH next year and they may win 5 or 6 games. Heights doesn't have near the talent Central has overall and there is no way they could make a turnaround like Central did, but I think if you add one great player they would be a playoff team.

Central Cambria was 7-3 in the regular season. CC was loaded with talent and won 7 games. So you're saying Cambria Heights, a team with very little talent (sorry but its true) gets one good player, they will win 6 games and be in contention for the playoffs?

If you add a player like Runk they win 5 or 6 games and maybe make the playoffs. But of course they have nobody of that caliber, so the will win like 3 games.

Central Cambria will be lucky to win 4 games next year.

Yes, Runk was/is a special player for Central, but it wasn't just the Runk show out there. QB/WR Forshey (gotta love versatility like that) and TE Cafferty (one of the best TE's I've seen this year) are just two of the other players that factored into Central's run to the D6 game. They may not win the D6 crown without Runk, but I think they would certainly make the playoffs.

Also, let's deal with the whole lifting/running/getting bigger/stronger in the off-season thing. Truth is, it doesn't happen. How many individual kids on the high school level around here have you seriously seen put on 20-30 lbs. of muscle or gain a couple steps on their speed in the off-season, let alone a whole line? And mainly, it's the kids who already have shown they could be something special that strive for these gains (for that gain could mean a scholarship in the future), not mediocre players. On the high school level, it takes a kid's own self-motivation to make these gains and do all the right things (lifting, eating, self-disciplining) that are necessary to become measurably better from one year to the next.

And do you seriously think Runk made all the plays with a joke of a line blocking for him? Heck no. I don't know any specific names or statistics, but I'd be shocked if that O-Line from Central wasn't a high quality unit. Behind (or in front, i guess) of every great RB or QB is almost always a great group of offensive linemen.

I totally disagree with that comment. Kids put on weight all the time as the grow from 10th grade to 11th, and from 11th to 12th. You're telling me that when a kid walks onto the practice field his first day of camp as a sophomore, he is going to be the same two years down the road? Also some kids mature later than others which can lead to gaining of 20 or 30 pounds and a step or two. Kids can gain more than 1 or 2 steps in the span of a year or two, they can gain 3 or 4. If you have 4 or 5 players on your team every year make those strides it can make a big difference.

Now on to the Cambria Heights thing. First off, they aren't even close to being able to do what Central did last year. I totally agree with you on that Achilles. Not just Cafferty, Runk, and Forshey, but also on the defensive side of the ball. But Heights can get some good line play and Vescovi can continue to improve they could win 3 or 4 games, maybe more...
