Re: Question About Oklahoma
I love the camaraderie on this site.
Love the logic.

Florida is the best because they beat the best plain and simple.
Love the logic.
Maybe Yellow Creek math is different than on the Ridge.

Re: Question About Oklahoma
I love the Florida quote. Texas beat the same team by the same margin of score. Nice reply, southy. Is that the best you could come up with? If Florida is the best team in the country, why did they lose to Mississippi? Answer me that one. The best team in the country could have been one of many teams, but we will never know because we don't have a playoff system. Florida had a great team this season. I am not saying that. I do not think they were the best team. If Oklahoma would've stepped up in the red zone, they would've beaten the Gators. Choklahoma did it again. 0-5 in BCS games. Enough said.

Re: Question About Oklahoma
Its not about who is the best team. It's about matchups. Florida and USC and Utah as well, would give EVERY team a major problem. Oklahoma, Ohio State, Texas, even Penn State give ALOT of teams problems. Its about matchups. You will argue in circles until you realize that.
Let's say there is a playoff. Let's say SMU, next season, gets an at-large bid and wins the national championship. Is SMU really the best? You can't even go by head to head. June Jones offense would cause major problems for Texas, Penn State, Oklahoma, Alabama, even USC. So if they win, does that make them a better team? I don't honestly think that it does. I think the majority would be happy with that, as a determining factor, when crowing a national champ, but do you seriously think SMU or Hawaii is honest to God the best team in the country?
I think you have to accept levels of greatness. Elite, very close, very good, good, pretty decent, average, a little below average, bad, very bad. Florida and USC, in my opinion, are the gold standard. I think Ohio State wafts in and out of that. So does LSU, I guess. I would say Texas is very close, and there's an argument for "elite" with OU just as there is for OSU and LSU. I think PSU is in the upper ranks of "very good" and can get "very close" if they put forth some effort in all areas of the program.
I just feel like you have to accept the levels instead of the rankings. And I honestly do not think head to head means anything more than seasonal bragging rights in many, many cases. Penn State obliterated Oregon State, who beat Pitt by 3. Does that mean PSU would beat Pitt by 60? Oregon State was a dumb-decision away from beating Utah, who pounded Alabama. Is Oregon State better than Alabama?

Re: Question About Oklahoma
Great points, TAE. I would put Texas in the elite category, but I am a little bias. They do only have 8 losses in the last 5 years, though. That is pretty amazing.
