Open Letter to Pitt Fans

Post by The Ancient Enemy »

I would really like it if the Pitt faithful would start posting more on this site. We have a few Pitt fans, but they largely heckle PSU and refrain from posting Pitt news. What I would like is to create a culture on this site that is dominated by both camps of fans, not just Penn State.

What people fail to realize is that both camps have a vested interest in eachother. I personally want Pitt and PSU to play every year. I also want Pitt to get very good and win the Big East every single season, as well as PSU winning the Big Ten. Put the focus on Pennsylvania. Keep kids from leaving the state and going to WVU or Ohio State. If you can build a culture of competition between the schools, you can turn PA into a real battleground. Penn State should not be getting all their kids from Maryland and New Jersey, instead of PA. Think of the sense of community it would create if a kid from someplace like Portage was being chased by Pitt and a kid from Windber by PSU. That's just an example. What if they were both on the same team? The only way this can happen is if the teams play eachother again, and if Pitt stops screwing around and actually starts winning some dang games.

As you can see, I am very interested in Pitt. In a strange way, Pitt is my second favorite team. I would really like it if there were people who would talk Pitt football around here, like there is with Penn State.

Pitt's been on program building and it's working. The rivalry with WVU has never been the same as playing PSU and getting that back would be a dream come true. It seems that the the change in academic requirements at Pitt has coincided with the improvement in athletics. As a Pitt grad, I'm happy to see the transformation.

In some sick, twisted way...I AM GUILTY....I enjoy heckling/riling up UPS fans more than posting about Pitt (although I do....occasionally post about Pitt)...but it is like a defense mechanism; when your qb's have sucked for 2 yrs running & your offensive coordinator has the creativity of a toddler & you watch all these other Panthers playing their hearts out you have 2 choices: Insert sharp objects into your face or Mess w/ NitWits!
