johnstown boys freshman basketball team

Let’s make something happen instead of talking about it. I will personally pay for officials if you can get Shaler frosh team to come to J-town. I'm pretty sure I can get a gym of ours.
If you can get the facilities I'm pretty sure I can get the Frosh team down to Pittsburgh.
And if you would like us to bring our varsity and beat your below average varsity team as well I'm sure after playoffs that can be worked out as well

As I said...Big Fish, Small Pond.
If Jtown had a tourney anywhere near the prestige and size of Shaler's tourney, I'd surely tell the frosh coach.
Shaler already has the largest, most competitive Frosh tourney in western PA...Why travel somewhere else to play, let alone to Distroct 5/6 land? To play Hollidaysburg, McCort, or Richland??? WHY??? I think not.
Besides, Shaler's frosh team blew out every WPIAL AAAA frosh opponent by 20+ points, including Pittsburgh Central Catholic, Butler, North Allegheny, Seneca Valley, etc. and that's with their best frosh player starting varsity and averaging 13 and 10...What do they have to prove to Jtown??
Earlier in this thread, I was making a suggestion for Jtown to come here and play some quality competition, which it appears they cannot get in their own area...I even personally made a contact to the tourney director to relax the entry deadlines, be flexible with scheduling, etc, to allow Jtown in. They could not make it due to another commitment.
Regardless, take a look at Shaler and who they have played and not only beaten, but BLOWN OUT, then look at Jtown and who they have played (and granted, they are unbeaten, but look at who they played, and it isn't even in the same universe in terms of the quality of teams that Shaler has played)...I think it's pretty clear to anyone who knows western PA HS basketball that Jtown needs to play Shaler a whole lot more than Shaler needs to play them.
Shaler's below average varsity? By who's standards? In WPIAL AAAA, yes they were below average this season.
Don't kid yourself, though...They were very comparable to Jtown, playing State College and Altoona both about the same as Jtown played them...Jtown lost at State by 11, Shaler lost by 15 to State at home (the afternoon following a Shaler upset win over then WPIAL AAAA #1 Pittsburgh Central Catholic)...Jtown beat Toona by 5 in OT at Jtown, while Shaler lost to Toona by 6 at Toona...and this is while Shaler was starting a frosh, 2 sophs, and 2 juniors...

When is Johnstown's 9th grade basketball team not good? And when did people start caring about 9th grade basketball? Last time I checked if you're that good you move up to play varsity or atleast JV. Why is there even a thread on this?

Is Shaler some elite program that nobody knows about? We are very proud of our Johnstown athletes up this way and im pretty sure that our kids will welcome any challenges presented to them in any sport.

Re: johnstown boys freshman basketball team
Good for them. Can we end this pointless argument about which 9th grade teams better? Kids develop over time and work hard or don't work hard. Kids grow, some kids don't grow. So who really cares who's 9th grade teams good? Forest Hills' 9th grade football team has been undefeated like 7 of the last 10 years or something, but that doesn't equal that much success in highschool. Are we gonna be arguing about who's 7th grade team is best next?

Especially since the kids are just going out and having fun playing basketball and not worried about the hoopla surrounding them. 3 more years is a ways to go for these kids so lets just relax and wish these future athletes well in these years to come.

Shaler basketball
Small Fish in any pound
Dont get those goupies eaten by a shark WT
When your varsity doesnt produce any championships I guess you have to look at any positive in your program to make your school look good.
Lets just put it this way, this game will never happen, but im pretty sure that the next 3 years at johnstown are going to be alot better than the next 3 years at mighty Shaler.

I heard Richland's 7th and 8th grade teams are dominating the LH and are playing in the WPIAL AA Freshmen league the next two years!

thetruth22, Time will tell. Remember, competition is relative...and so are championships.
You can have an all-star team from Districts 5 and 6, and I will take Chester High's varsity and beat you like a rented mule.

WT i am so sick of hearing "johnstown has no chance" "we beat WPIAL AAAA teams by 2000", from what i know johnstown would win hands down
