New to site- D3 Thread

Post by MrYorkCounty »

I post on Pennlive and I saw Nittany302 asking for Pennlive posters to sign up over here so I decided to give it a look. Obviously I'm from York County and I'd be willing to help out with information, scores and whatever else I can help with. My main interests are Boys/Girls hoops, Football, Boys/Girls(spring) Soccer, and Baseball with some interest in Boys/Girls Volleyball and Wrestling. Hi to all.

Welcome, Mr. York

Could you give us an update of the young lady who starred last year for York Catholic lady hoops all year long and then stood out in the state final game...not sure of her name, but she certainly can play.

Also, who appears to be strong in the Hershey/Harrisburg area (District 3) in terms of making a run at a state title for 2009.

Thanks.

Again, welcome.

I envy you MrYorkCounty....you're living in a hoops hotbed right now and a lot of the good state playoff games end up right there in your neck of the woods.

Looks to me like York High might be in a good position to win the Western title this year. There are no particularly strong AAAA teams in the west and that makes the D3 Champ the favorite by default...of course they have to win on Saturday too.

Susquehanna Twp. and Scotland, two teams with state title aspirations got upset in the D3 tourney but are still alive via the consy brackets...I'll predict one of these two to at least come back all the way to the state semifinals, we'll see.

I will say right now that York has played well in D3 playoffs. Thats all about to come to a end when CD EAST and comes to town. York High beat a team without any go to players, and known just for pressure defense. CD East is lead by hands down the best point guard in this area. My hat goes out to coach smallwood and his assistants for helping get the cougaurs to where they are this season. but the York train ends this weekend

Life hunts- The girls name from YC is Kady Schrann. She is a Soph. and has team in District final. Best player in York County with Freshman Sierra Moore from Delone Catholic being right behind her. Delone doesn't have much other then Moore and Schrann has a better supporting cast. YC just beat DC to reach the District final.

Boys AAAA - York, CD East and Reading. Reading is having internal problems and can't field a normal starting lineup on most nights, but can be very dangerous on the right night. They had York down by 17 pts with under 4 minutes to play in the game and York stormed back to win by 66-65 in the second round of districts.

Boys AAA - York Suburban, Susq. Twp, Eastern York and Steel- High. YS is playing Wyomissing in the district final. Wyo upset EY and YS upset Susq. Twp in the semis. I feel EY and Susq. Twp are the top 2 teams. Wyomissing is well coached and discplined as is YS but both are playing above themselves. YS will make more noise the Wyo. on states.

Boys AA - Trintity with the Kindler boy. He is a junior and is one of the top players in all of District 3. Maybe Delone Catholic or Lancaster Menn. After that not much else.

Boys/Girls A - Not that knowledgeable with the Boys or Girls A. Scotland and Greenwood in Boys and Lebanon Catholic and Greenwood in girls.

Girls AAAA - Central Dauphin and no one else. Have the Thomas girl who is the best player in the District at any level and are battled tested and flat out good. Safest pick to win State Championship at any level.

Girls AAA - Eaastern York, Trinity, Lampeter-Strauburg and West York. L/S has the best shot to go far. EY, not deep enough and Trinity not much of an inside game but have good guards. L/S, very balanced and vertern team. I think they win District 3. WY has best starting 5 in York County but are very streaky.

Girls AA - Lanc. Menn and York Catholic. LM, very athletic and won AAA District title last year. YC, 3 time defending champ and superstar in Schrann.

Cougar97 - Harrisburg beat CD East twice this year and York is just a bigger and better version of Harrisburg.

Serious MId-Penn bball fan. Looking forward to the Bearcats of York taking on the Panthers of CD East. Should be a thriller. East different than both Reading and Harrisburg, do lack height though. They'll compete and if York walks away District 3 champs they deserve serious props as the road for them wasn't an easy one. One side note I'd like to take the time to congratulate Red Lion on a fine season and am sorry for the misfortune there seniors have faced come playoff time. This doesn't seem fair and I feel for all the kids who exhausted themselves through-out the year. Good luck to all of you in your future endeavors, hold your heads high and be proud for what you accomplished on the court and the manner you did it in. An honest mistake yet unfortunate. Go Central, Pa. This area has as much bball talent as anywhere else in the state. All the state tiltles are proof enough. Mid-Penn, nice showing sending 4 of the possible top 5 entrants on to states. Congrats to the York area teams this season as well, very nice showing, York high, York Suburban, Eastern York.

I managed to find this about the situation...

Red Lion parents demand answers
Moving a basketball player from one team to another was a mistake, not a devious act, the Red Lion principal said.

About 60 people -- basketball players, coaches and parents -- were in Red Lion Area High School's auditorium Wednesday demanding answers and accountability.

They wanted to know how a mistake that cost the Red Lion boys' basketball team to forfeit many of its victories, YAIAA and District 3 Class AAAA playoffs, was made.

Charles Humberd, the school's principal, stood before the group and explained what went wrong.

The underlying issue is a PIAA rule that states a freshman cannot play for both the freshman and varsity basketball teams. Wherever a player begins the season, that's where he must stay, he said.

After the meeting, he said he was saddened by the problem.

"The entire situation, we can't begin to express how terrible we feel for the boys," Humberd said. "Nobody on our team, from players to coaches, are at fault. That's what makes this especially difficult."

Nothing underhanded happened, he said. It was just a mistake.

"We had a boy start on the ninth-grade team and went to the high school team because they were shorthanded," he said.

"I think the students who follow our team are also feeling badly for the boys. It's disappointing," Humberd said. "Nobody anticipates these kinds of things."

The parents talked of feeling hurt that their sons were being punished for doing all the right things. These are student-athletes who followed a no-tolerance policy to stay on the team, players who looked forward to playing in tournaments that could attract college scouts, they said.

One mother cried while she said high school sports is supposed to be about the kids.

"They worked so hard for months. It's sad for the team," said Windsor Township resident Randy McCreary, whose son Spencer is a leading scorer on the team.

Many blamed the school's athletic director, Katy Grenewalt, for the problem.

Grenewalt spoke to the group, but declined to comment on record.

"I feel like it's unfinished," said Windsor Township resident Bill Macnamara, whose son Drew is a senior on the team. "He feels terrible ... Let Red Lion host a tournament. Give them one more chance to play."

Humberd said that was a good idea and was hopeful other districts would agree to play Red Lion in some sort of event outside PIAA.

"We're going to look for more opportunities for the boys to be able to play more basketball," he said.
