WPIAL INFO

Post by muckitup »

Hey Titan, since the D5 champ game is behind most of us, was wondering if you could feed our info seeking frenzy on who all of these D5 A teams will be playing. Any of your input should be a great help to get us through a long waiting week. THANKS

I don't really follow class A basketball, but I can say that Sewickley Academy and Serra Catholic are both battle tested, solid, excellent teams. Saw both play in the off-season. Sewickley has junior do-it-all Tom Droney, a 6'7" junior who plays facing the basket, someone who will be a serious matchup issue. Droney already has offers from Davidson and Pitt. Serra has a kid named Heatherington who dropped 50 in a semifinal game a few days ago, he's a good athlete, particularly against class A level competition. Sewickley is talented and well coached, I know their coach Win Palmer personally and he's an intelligent, well prepared guy who will have his team ready for whoever he faces.

Knowing what I know about D5 basketball, the District 5 teams (including NB, Shade, and Tussey) will likely have to raise their game to another level to stay competitive with, much less beat, these two teams.
