Scoring questions ...

Post by bcor »

OK ... confession time ... I'm a newbee to wrestling ... 2 questions ...

1. During results from the regional tournament I've been listening to on the internet/radio, some matches are won by "pin" and some by "fall" ... what's the difference?

2. In the Region 5 match between 215 lb'ers McDannell and Shippey, it was said that Shippey made a "5 point move" ... but all the scoring sites I see only mention "Near Fall"s as up to 3 points ... so what is a "5 point move"?

THANKS!

a Fall is a pin- 5pt move, is a takedown or reversal that goes directly to nearfall situation td+nf = 5pts.

Thanks, Eaglealum ... I'm gettin' the lingo and action down now :-)

Another question ... the brackets (at http://www.wjpa.com/Wrestling/2009/2009SWAABrackets.pdf) don't say who wrestles for 5th place ... I assume it's the losers of the consolation semi-finals? If so, then the 6th-place guy ends up with 3 losses for the tourny, right?

This link ... http://liveevents.nhscasportsnetwork.co ... uthwestaa/ ... has "District Stats Breakdown" ...

District Stats Breakdown

Wrestlers Wins Losses Win % Medals
District 1 0 0 0.000 0
District 5 41 52 50 0.510 0
District 6 70 111 72 0.607 0
District 7 84 116 96 0.547 0

... and I'm confused why these don't balance out to .500 ... how can all 3 districts have winning %s > .500? Who are they beating?

Similarly, my read of the bracket (http://www.wjpa.com/Wrestling/2009/2009SWAABrackets.pdf) says that there were 224 matches yesterday ... so why does the Wins column add up to 52+111+116 = 279?
