Here's a list of kids who had PSU offers pulled, that eventually went to pitt, even though they wanted to attend Penn State:

I'm sure there's many more. How many kids wanted to attend Pitt and "settled" for Penn State? I'm sure it has nothing to do with Pitt's garbage academics and dwindling athletics financing.

"The Penn State report is not true. I went to Penn State, and they offered me a scholarship. I visited with the coaches, the staff was great, the ice cream was good, and the facility was nice. There wasn't anything that they did wrong. It came down to Pitt, Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan State. Pitt had the best coach in the nation in Walt Harris, so I decided to go there."

Well, buddy, I hate to do this to you, but here's the real story:

Larry Fitzgerald NEVER had a written offer to Penn State. He had a verbal offer just like every other player in the nation has from every school in the nation. Penn State never had serious interest in Fitz because of his grades.

Did you honestly think that Fitz would respond by saying "My grades were not good enough for Penn State." And as for his comment of Harris... are you serious? That whole response was PC. Harris is now an embattled coach who couldn't even get hired at Seneca Valley. Did you honestly think Fitz would say something negative about Harris?

You guys can b*tch and moan all you want about all this Paterno and criminal behavior garbage, but like I said 85 times already, even the kids who got into trouble NEVER had prior incidents before being recruited and extended an offer. Chris Baker and Chris Bell had good records and good academics. Penn State has NEVER recruited a kid who had a criminal background or poor grades. If those kids DID have "borderline" grades, those kids have to jump through hoops to convince Paterno they can handle the college load. This is what Enis and Clark had to do.

Now, when you watch stuff like the Under Armor game and whatever else, and all see those garbage where kids are loving every second of the recruiting game, tearing off Florida shirts to reveal Miami ones, are these the kids you want at your school? Penn State does not chase those kids. The reason why kids with background or grade issues end up in the SEC is not just because of the competition. It's because those schools are notorious for very low admissions standards for athletes. Clemson is another one.

Pitt does a good job of keeping those kids contained but their standards aren't very high either.

Let me get this straight. If PSU did not have such stringent academic standards, they would get all of these top level recruits and win championships every year. As a fan, I would much rather have Fitzgerald than any receiver I have ever seen in a PSU uniform. I would take McCoy over any PSU RB since Ki-Jana. So way to go Nits. You are academically superior. We Buckeyes will remember this when we win another championship next year.
