Coaching Change
Re: Coaching Change
Agree with that to a point, but with the talent he had the last two years, there is NO way they should have been as awful as they were, barely winning a game this year for Richland high school (female) athletic team is flat out ugly. Poorly prepared in every aspect.

Who cares? This is Richland GIRL'S basketball. Who Cares?
Re: Coaching Change
Lots of people considering girls basketball is way ahead of boys basketball in our area.
Re: Coaching Change
You are so right pat. The boys game borders on the pitiful in D6, if not all of western PA. Johnstown wins 6 AAA, and gets blown out by 3-6 Lancaster Catholic. What a joke of a game that was. Johnstown runs no offense, plays terrible defense and gets beat by the #6 team from district 3 --- and they are the BEST team in D6???? WOW.
The girls game success is the result of parents getting girls involved in competitive basketball programs from a relatively young age. There have been some great girls summer AAU teams in the area that have developed fundamentals in the girls. The main program was the Johnstown Lady hoopsters. The Westmont and Conamaugh valley state finalist teams came from there. Now there is Blue thunder that has helped develop the talent we are seeing at Ferndale, CV, BG, NC and some others. They seem to be very active with alot of teams and alot of involvement.
This is why the girls in D6 are competitive and the boys are not. It would be nice if someone finally set up a competitive AAU club in the area for BOYS.

Psycho,
A post of mine from about 3 weeks ago....
Chops,
Why? Because girls basketball has been far superior to boys basketball in this area for over 30 years. It all starts with the Altoona girls teams of the early 80s, then the Guilfoyles, Carrolls, Lewistowns, McCorts, Westys, Conemaugh Valley, Northern Cambria, etc. Statewide...District 6 is the hotbed for girls basketball and garners much respect. Now the boys...whole different story there...little respect statewide and rightfully so.
Year in and year out girls teams from District 6 are commonplace in the top 10 or honorable mention sections of the state polls during the regular season...moreso in Double and Single A because D6 is home to many more AA and A schools. Then, they back those rankings up with Western Final and State Championship appearances.
That doesn't happen in D6 boys basketball....no rankings...no deep runs in the state playoffs.
I believe it all starts in the early elementary leagues when D6 girls teams start battling each other. They grow together and become much better together. Simply put, girls basketball is more competitive overall because of the vast number of excellent programs at every level. They make each other better. And, I don't want to forget the AAU side of this. Some of the strongest girls AAU teams in the Northeast come out of this area, why? Because they are made up of the best players from a number of D6 schools. Boys AAU basketball in this area is nearly non-existent.
Girls basketball is King or should I say Queen in District 6.
