Sunderland goes Bye Bye
"According to two sources close to the Penn State wrestling team, the Troy Sunderland Era of Penn State wrestling is officially over. The 11-year coach of the Nittany Lions met with Athletic Director Tim Curley on Thursday morning and was told he could either resign or be fired. As of right now, no decision has been made by Sunderland. The future of Sunderland and assistant coaches Matt Dernlan, Aaron Anspach and Mark Perry are uncertain as the new coach would almost assuredly want to bring his own people with him. In his 11-year career, Sunderland amassed a 115-90-2 record. He coached 27 All-Americans and guided three wrestlers to national championships. In addition, under his tutelage, seven other wrestlers were NCAA finalists."
Pretty bad when kids are picking Lehigh over Penn State!!!
"In the 28 years before Troy took over we finished out of the top-10 only five times, under 3 different coaches. In Troy's 10 seasons as HC, PSU has already finished out of the top-10 five times."

Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.

Re: Sunderland goes Bye Bye
Another coach who was performing badly has RESIGNED. Sunderland did turn in his resignation as the PSU wrestling coach. Isn't it amazing that Penn State never "fires" anyone. I remember when Jerry Dunne "resigned" as PSU's head basketball coach. Why Penn State is so squeaky clean they wouldn't "fire" anybody. It is LUCKY though that when a PSU coach has done poorly, that they take it upon themselves to "move on", just like Rene Portland and Jerry Dunne done. Wouldn't want PSU to have any "public relations" disasters in their athletic program. Crime on the football field is enough.
