Can Pitt even afford to field a basketball and football team next year?

TAE, if someone makes thousands of dollars off of sports, do you consider his opinion the same as someone that loses thousands of dollars on sports? I don't think so. If someone has inside information on a recruit, do you consider his knowledge the same as someone that just throws out a prediction? If so, why do you subcribe to recruiting sites? You're entitled to your opinion, but I disagree.

An educated guess is still a guess, though. You can't give a definite answer, even if one team has all their starters injured. But 2 + 10 will always be 12. Different kinds of knowledge. Absolute and "probably"

I agree with that, but I would take a wise person's educated guess over someone's uneducated guess any day of the week. I agree there's no definite answer in predicting sporting events, but I have seen a lot that are close to a lock. I would take the majority of your predictions over 99% of the other people on this board.

How did you know, ham? :D Not necessarily. Some people know certain sports better than others. I know that you are very knowledgeable about the NFL and I have asked for your input on it before. Don't sell yourself short.

How do you explain though when a woman wins a bowl poll by making her choices based on which mascots she likes or which uni's she likes better? And how many times have people with educated guesses actually won their NCAA tourney brackets?

"And how many times have people with educated guesses actually won their NCAA tourney brackets?"

I have won some over the years with educated guesses. I have never won a million dollars or anything, but at least $300 a few times. This year got the best of me because I was sold on Louisville and I was not a believer in UCONN. I did know Pitt was going to get upset before the Final Four, though. I agree that when a woman wins because she picked mascots that it's complete luck, but how often does that really happen? In the bracket I ran this year, the people at the top are pretty knowledgeable about basketball. Once in awhile you'll find someone luck into big money when it is dealing with sports, but not too often. TAE, have you ever played Streak for the Cash on ESPN? Now that's the toughest contest I have ever entered.

Every year, pretty much. More so in bowls than the brackets.

I never played that game, you can win money?

You can win a million dollars if you get 27 games right in a row. Now that's a real challenge. It is over on Tuesday, but it has a new one starting up the next day.

I can see that in the bowl games, but it's very difficult to do that in the NCAA tourney, because you have to pick like 60+ games and at least know that the #1 seed is better than the #16 seed. If you don't know that, then you are done from the beginning. As far as the bowl games go, they are all pretty much toss-ups, so I can see how someone could get lucky by picking mascots. Also, a lot of sites give you like 10 attempts to pick your winners. That takes the fun out of it for me.
