Girls Final State Rankings
Three champs No. 1 the entire season

Three of the four PIAA girls' basketball champions spent the entire season as the No. 1 team in the state in their respective classifications of The Patriot-News rankings.
Really, it wasn't a hard decision to make Archbishop Carroll (AAA), Villa Maria (AA) and Bishop Guilfoyle (A) the top picks from the start. The only other No. 1 the entire season, Cardinal O'Hara, lost to Mt. Lebanon in the AAAA title game. Those Blue Devils spent the entire season at No. 3.
Three of the four teams we didn't have in the last state rankings put out prior to the state tournament in Class AAA, strange as it may seem, come from District 3. The reason we didn't have runner-up Lampeter-Strasburg, Trinity or Eastern York ranked is the district has a less-than-stellar record in this classification. We'll have to re-evaluate that position next season.
Trinity or Lampeter-Strasburg as the No. 2 team in Class AAA. What's your call?

Re: Girls Final State Rankings
just some thoughts on the concluded basketball season--- congrats to all involved-- great year and good memories--- now about the classifications--- my thoughts are that it doesnt matter how many kids go to a school you still play 5 on 5(depth is an issue)--was watching the pcn preview show before the championships with 3 or four guys talking about the teams and one guy is with the phila inquirer--- they take calls from across the state and a guy calls in and asked the panel if they think its fair that a majority of the final teams were private schools -- instead of stating their point of view one guy shakes his head like its not even an issue that should be discussed and the main guy says i hear that a lot and moves on like it was never brought up-- the guy from the inquirer then goes on to say how people from all over the delaware valley try to get into the program of archbishop carrol girls basketball because they always have good teams-- all d1-- but what gets me is that the public schools they play have busted their buts since the 4th grade to get better year after year with the same group of people and this is what they have to work with until they leave highschool wherethis other school can bring in new talent in the 10th 11th or 12th grade-- so all that work put in by them is wasted because no matter how you slice it its 5 from the same district against an allstar team-- and that is not fair-- so-to the piaa-- you should have all the schools before each game read the following--- the piaa believes that sportsmanship begins with you-- not us--- the fan---
Re: Girls Final State Rankings
How could Mr. Shay rank Southern Huntingdon #3 and Bishop McCort #7 ? McCort beat SH by over 20 points in the District 6 championship. They also gave BG their only loss of the season. They were the second best girls team in D6 behind State College yet Mr. Shay ranks them 4 places behind a team they spanked badly?
