Redd is Blue!!!!

Post by The Ancient Enemy »

Hey, guys... Frankie Valli here for TAE, got a jingle for ya...

"SILAS IS GOLDEN, GOLDEN!!! UP IN HAPPY VALLEYYYYY!!!!"

I appreciate the intro, Frank.

That's right, freakazoids... Nits land their 4th commit of the 2010 season by nagging 4-star RB Silas Redd from Connecticut. Been following Redd for awhile, and his videos are WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOA NELLY!

In perspective:

PSU has landed the top QB on their board.
PSU has landed the top RB on their board.
PSU has landed the top WR on their board
PSU has landed the top LB on their board.

Obviously there are schools who recruit better than Penn State. But if you are chasing kids for 2 years and they are on top of your board at their respective positions, and you land them, that is a huge accomplishment. Especially when that school puts in hundreds of hours of legwork evaluating their own talent.

They have been chasing Redd for quite a long time, and seeing his films you know why they were so high on him. They bypassed the top PA recruit (in some eyes) in RB Corey Brown b/c they were so high on Redd. I personally do not feel Brown is durable enough to handle a full load, or is a good fit in the PSU offense. Redd is absolutely a good fit. It's easy to get irritated when PSU skips out on PA kids, but MOST of the time there is a good reason for it. Granted, sometimes they chase kids in other states and miss, but I would rather have them chase the kids they really want than accept Plan C kids.

That being said, they have ended up at times with Plan C kids! But this is a massive pickup.

And a big plus for these kids is that Penn State NOW has their own Law School. It soon won't be hard for them to find alumni who can help defend them in a court of law.

As opposed to Alumni who will sell them diet plans or chicken wing sauce.

Was doing some reading earlier, and what's all the hoop-la about Silas Redd. You'd think he was the 2nd coming or something. According to Rivals.com, Redd is the 11th rated RB in their 2010 high school rankings. The Nit's fans are just happy to get any RB with that type of ranking. Checked out the final 2009 Rivals rankings, and PSU did not get ANYBODY in the last recruiting season in the Top 75 RB rankings, or the Top 50 all purpose RB ratings. Meanwhile, last year Pitt got Raymond Graham from New Jersey, rated 11th in the Rivals all-purpose RB ratings, Dion Lewis of NJ rated 20th, and Jason Douglas rated 42nd from Weston, FL. The BIG difference between Redd's rankings and those of the Pitt Kids is, Redd has not played a down as a senior. The rankings of the Pitt kids came AFTER their senior seasons were over. After being blanked from the RB section of last years Rival rankings, no wonder PSU fans are excited.

That's really strange considering PSU picked up Curtis Dukes in last year's class, 32nd ranked RB overall, 4-star RB, had an offer to Pitt as well.

In the 2008 class, they picked up 4-star RB Brandon Beachum.

In the 2007 class, they picked up Stephon Green.

In the 2006 class, they picked up Evan Royster.

And this stuff about Redd and his senior year? Moldo, the Pitt recruits for 2010 ALSO need to play their senior seasons. Pitt has 2 commits, does that mean those kids aren't any good? I mean, yes, it means they aren't any good because they DID commit to Pitt, but you get my drift.

FYI, the new Rivals 100 came out today. It was completed Friday, before the Nike Camp this past weekend. Redd won the RB MVP award, and this kind of stuff is how kids get moved around in the Rivals 100 rankings. Right now he is 110.

Dukes was only a 3-star RB. The RB recruits for Pitt that I mentioned, have already PLAYED their senior season. Their Rivals rankings are etched in stone. Their high school days are over. Redd has yet to play ONE down as a running back his senior year. We'll see how he ends up next year at this time.

Dukes is a 4-star, like Beachum was. Just like Silas Redd.
