Re: Papa Joe advocating for 12th member
Rutgers?!? Syracuse?!?
-The first point you brought up earlier in this topic was academics. Pitt is much stronger academically than these two schools. The SAT ranges for students accepted at pitt are about 560-660 and 570-660. For Syracuse these are 540-650 and 570-770. For Rutgers these are 520-630 and 560-660.
-Pitt is better than both of these schools at football (despite embarrasing loss to Rutgers this year).
-Pitt is better at basketball than both of these schools.
-They may have more alumni backing, but unless it is a significant difference, this shouldn't be weighed in too heavily upon.

Major crack problem in the westmonster household, I guess. Do you not realize that any little tiny bit of media market that Pitt brings in is already dominated by Penn State? Pitt being member 12 makes zero sense financially. And when Rutgers accepts, the Big East will be once again be scrambling for academic credibility. Was a nice ride while it lasted, Big East. Actually, no it wasn't.

That might be the case, but it's not exactly supported by the differences in those SAT scores. Statistically, those differences are meaningless. The difference between a 540 and 560 is nothing in they eyes of an admissions committee. Trust me on this one....westmonster wrote:Rutgers?!? Syracuse?!?

Guys, sad day today. Found Moldo in Oakland begging for money, yammering on and on about not being able to fund the athletics program and how bad he always wanted to attend Penn State.

Just take 3 teams in and make it a Big 14! That would be more attractive to Notre Dame, who they really want anyway, because they could exempt ND from playing football crossovers which is what ND wants (Navy, USC, etc.)
Add ND, Pitt, and either Rutgers or Missouri.
If they want academics and the New York market then by all means just add Army and be done with it!

I would definitely be okay with that, just like I wanted the BE to add Navy and still think they should.just add Army and be done with it!

To me a better football team would mean more wins, more big victories, more star players.
Rutgers leaving the Big East will have little impact upon the conference football wise, and definitly not basketball wise.

It would be a monumental academic loss.
