You're missing the point, Wildcat. You have to include those Canadian teams (who all play in the NHL) in any of these discussions. If the NBA had a team in Chile, we'd include them too. I wasn't talking about global popularity. But saying the Canadian franchises... which play in the NHL... are not to be included is pretty illogical. It's not about global popularity (with me, at least) I was looking at the home attendance figures. You have to look at the worst franchises and see how THEY do. NBA has way more attendance problems at the bottom of the food chain.

The NBA is definitely a more top heavy league. The top franchises are worth more than the top NHL ones. ESPN the Mag had a chart comparing the four major sports associations and the NBA came out ahead of the NHL in things like net worth, franchise worth, etc.
My problem is that the NHL is being carried by Canadians. Are we talking about which league is more popular overall or which sport is more popular in America? If it is the former, then you are right to include the Canadian teams (the NBA also has a team in Toronto). If we are talking about which sport is more popular in America (or which league for that matter), then Canadian franchises should not be included. Either way, basketball and the NBA wins, hands down.
