Joe Acurio Resigns from Ferndale Football head coach
Re: Joe Acurio Resigns from Ferndale Football head coach
seems like the kids will be left hangin without a coach. Any idea who will fill this and how soon
Re: Joe Acurio Resigns from Ferndale Football head coach
Everywhere has their groups of parents that are nuts and think they know better than coaches and that is the case at Ferndale. My point is how does Joe, as the current head coach of Ferndale, go and coach with McCort the week after his season is over? Can you imagine this happening elsewhere? Would Brandon Bailey go and coach with his dad after his season ends and be on the sidelines? No way. Another point is how does McCort allow him to do this? One would think that somebody at McCort or Ferndale would say, "Hey Joe, wait 'til next year. Its looks real bad with you still being head coach over there."

Unfortunately we all dance to the beat of our own drum and I suspect that Joe felt it was acceptable for him to be there. I don't think it was and I said when Joe got the job that it would be difficult for him to go to Ferndale and deal with losing after having had so much success. As far as him resurrecting that program.....not gonna happen....you can't play competitive footbal with 20 kids on your roster.
Ferndale gets a good group of athletes once every 20 years or so and at this rate, we may not get that ever again.

Haven't posted in a while but with football approaching, nows as good a time as any. Look for Acurio to be on McCort's staff this season. Ken Salem will son be a father, and with the responsibility of running the school and raising a family, he will soon retire as head coach, maybe after this season. Arcurio will either become the new head coach, or more likely, offensive coordinator because I think Sheriden will get the head job.

Seems to be the talk. Great addition to the BM coaching staff! Will any of the other Ferndale/exMcCort players be tagging along with Joe?

Maybe Joe just didn't want to cut his hair this year, he had a deal with the payers last year that 1" came off for every win.......

Don't know much about Ferndale kids but heard the QB wasn't half bad (I think he is going to be a junior this year). McCort didn't have a "true" QB last year who could throw a great ball so maybe.......

I thought the saying was "when the going gets tough, the tough get going". Maybe it's Arcurio's nature to bail out on things. Didn't he quit football at Slippery Rock after his first term? Now, a short notice quit at Ferndale. And what exactly does a coach bring to a team who only played ONE term in college. Now I'm not saying that college experience is absolutely necessary when looking for a high school coach, but what was so special about him to begin with? What was in his resume that made him so desirable as a coach anyway?

I don't know the man, but when a program like Ferndale is looking for a coach, they have to realize that they are not going to get a coach with a proven track record. A young guy who has BM on his resume and possibly a recommendation from Salem looks good to a struggling West Pac school. This coaching gig actually wouldn't be bad for an assistant who wants to break in to the head coaching ranks. It would give one the experience without (in my opinion) the pressure of winning right away or continuing a tradition like FH or BM.

But here's a kid who only played defense in high school for about 2 years and essentially NO college experience. What made him so attractive, that he was from McCort? Wasn't there a Sheridan kid who played QB for McCort a few years ago and ended up on the football team at Carnegie-Mellon for awhile. Maybe Ferndale should look at him. After all, he has McCort on his resume.
