No Love For Delweld

Post by Footballfan4 »

I'm not a fan of either Martella's or Delweld just a fan of AAABA baseball. Anyway the umpiring is not helping Delweld by any means. Balls and Strikes are pointing towards Martella's each game this series. On both offense and defense. It could be the fact that they are trying to have another team besides Delweld make it into the tournament. However i am a firm believer of the Umpiring not effecting the game outcome and its all the players that causes the W's. I just wish the rest of the games end up fair both ways. because Delweld seems to be getting screwed.

Back to the game now, I like Martella's in this series, they are showing that they have the pitching depth, despite the rumors to pull out the Championship. This is a very exciting series and as a baseball fan that's what i like to see.

You put that mildly as far as the balls and strikes go. Delweld is'nt getting any calls. The Umpiring has been going for Martella's the whole time! I want a fair game tonight.

I'm not sure what's funnier, FootballFan4 trying to pose as an "impartial" fan or Delweld fans crying about umpiring. I mean, they had to bring the rec department folks in to try and stop the Delweld fans from intimidating the umpires (which could easily and quickly be done by the umpires themselves by clearing the sections behind home plate). Umpires are human. They make mental and physical errors just like players and coaches do. Those errors are part of the game.

I do believe I stated both views of the umpiring against Delweld and also my point of liking Martella's in this one. Think what you want.

one way to make the umpires no part of the game is to put up 18 runs wow that was an offensive explosion... and i am a fan of both teams i can careless, but i would say the group behind home plate(delweld) fans have alot to argue about up until tonight... and two if you really want them to stop be a man and go say something to them don't be a internet tough a$$ grow a set and go tell them how you really feel!

if the problem with the Delweld fans is with the fans behind home plate, I am pretty sure some of those fans forgot more about baseball that some of you will ever know. Just my opinion. As far as the umpiring is concerned, I won't say that Delweld is getting jobbed, on some calls they are. But it is bad both ways, no and's if's or but's about it. There is a non consistent strike zone both ways. One inning a Martella's pitcher might get a low strike called, and the next he doesn't. They don't give either pitchers a zone to work with, as it is always changing. As for the umpire with the Ball 4 call the other night. The pitch was very very close, maybe a bit low. If I am the ump in that situation, bases loaded, no outs, full count. A ball that is that close in a game that you are trying to win, and that the hitter choses not to swing at, I would ring it up because that batter was looking for the ump to bail him out. Like stated above, not saying Delweld is getting the screws, I think the umpiring is equally as bad, some of those guys actually think the fans are there to see them. Delweld fans really aren't that bad, you won't see the fans behind home plate mocking, poking fun, or bashing other players. I can't say the same about some Martella fans that I sat around the other day who were poking fun at Delweld players. I am looking forward to a good game 5, where both teams lay it on the line. I hope to see alot of people in the stands to support the young athletes of Johnstown and also hope the will continue to support the winner of tomorrow night's game.

Two things:

Baseball knowledge is not a license to act like a jerk.

A big reason the umpiring is bad in the AAABA league is the fact that no one wants to umpire in the AAABA league. The pay is equivalent to what you get to do Pony, Colt or Legion ball and the abuse is 10 times worse. Although individual bad calls certainly favor one team or another, there's clearly no agenda to "get" one team or the other.

Let's get it back on the field: Who is (or who do you think) is throwing tonight? Is Pelekanos completely out of the picture on two days' rest? If he is, why use him in Game 2 instead of Game 1?

We will probably see Landon Wahl on short rest because that's what they have left for starters. In relief could be Sam Watkins but he is hurting from injuries from what i hear. On the Delweld end of it Bobby Carbough or Smithmyer will start the game with a questionable Vescovi in relief. He threw about 100 pitches Friday Night so he will maybe go an inning or 2. This game will not be a pitchers duel. 7-6 or 8-7 the final.
