UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State redshirt freshman middle linebacker Michael Zordich has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following an incident at 3:25 a.m. Sunday.
Mr. Zordich, 19, was stopped on Bigler Road after university police noticed him driving without his headlights on.
Penn State Police Deputy Director Tyrone Parham said this morning that Mr. Zordich's blood-alcohol content was 0.19. The limit for a minor is 0.02.
Mr. Parham said Mr. Zordich would be mailed a summons -- perhaps as early as today -- by Magisterial District Judge Jonathan D. Grine. No court date has been set.
Mr. Zordich, 6 feet 1 and 225 pounds, was listed third at middle linebacker on the depth chart released Monday by the school. His father, Mike, was an All-American strong safety at Penn State who later played 12 seasons in the NFL.
Mr. Zordich's status for Penn State's non-conference opener tomorrow against Akron remains up in the air.
"I don't know anything at this point," Penn State spokesman Jeff Nelson said.
When reached for his response Joepa responded "Uhhh, we gotta prepare for Akron , they gotta heckuva ball club uhhhhh, maybe we'll be cleaning the stadium.... again as a token punishment errrrrr result!
