Why are we only going back 4 years ( 2005,2006,2007,2008 )? Why not, at least make it 5, including 2004? Guess only 4 years makes PSU look more impressive.

retro, the reasoning for not going back that far would be because Pitt would have 17 National Titles that they were given after the fact. Haha. I love how you guys cut the numbers, though. It's priceless, but you're only confusing yourselves.

Aren't intervals of 5 more standard? I mean do you have 24th anniversity parties? Do you have 4 year class reunions? No. coach knew that from 2004-2008 PSU would not look as good in the standings, so he conveniently made the interval 4 years. Any other questions?

Then, instead of looking ONLY at the 12-0 game that PSU lost...look at the last 5 between the two, then the last 10, then 15, then 20.

I know a class who found out about their 10 year reunion a mere 3 weeks in advance.

also...look at USC in the early 2000's when they were referred to as USCC (community college) by Jim Rome.

Look at Pitt through the 90's.

Look at nearly every school out there... Oklahoma had runs where they weren't top tier and Texas even had some teams that I think won 6-8 games. I know PSU's down years were worse than most though. BUT, everyone has had some tough times.

Texas had a very rough spell for a good number of years in the 80's and 90's. Every program goes through that just like Coach said. However, PSU just isn't quite at that top tier in College Football if you're looking at it objectively over the last 10 years. They are definitely a quality team and have produced some outstanding talent lately, but there's a good 8-10 programs I would take over them without hesitation. We all know Penn State needs that one win to take them over the top and that's only going to happen in a National Championship game.

Over 10 years...I agree because that includes the bad years. I think depending on when you make a statement like this you end up throwing teams out all the time. If something like this was typed up in 1994 or something, then Texas would be out as a top 10???


I'll say this...wait 4 or 5 more years then and we'll make our list of the past 10 years. I think we'll find PSU near the top 6-10 nationwide. They've already earned two Big Ten titles in the last 5 years to get a start on this next 5.

It is fun to talk about though... it is all good fun discussion.

Texas would be close to being out of the discussion in that time frame. However, in those 15 years they won a National Title and continually won 10 games throughout the majority of them. It'd be hard to keep them out, but I definitely understand what you're saying.
