Conference Races

Post by The Ancient Enemy »

BIG EAST:
============
Pitt
Cincinnati
West Virginia

They all have yet to play one another. Finish for the BE crown should be a great one.
MY PICK: I'm less confident now that they will beat Cincinnati, but I am still taking Pitt.

BIG TEN:
=========
Iowa
Ohio State
Penn State

Iowa holds the tie-breaker over PSU, even if they DO lose to OSU, which I think they will. I am more confident now that PSU will defeat Ohio State, as well. Iowa will still represent the B10 b/c their win over PSU. Lions need to hope Iowa loses twice. Wouldn't need to hope for this, had they not lost to Iowa for the 27th consecutive time. OSU needs to beat both teams and hope they can tie Iowa.

ACC:
=======
GTech needed Miami to lose, which they did. They already beat VTech. I dont think any of these teams can keep GT from representing the ACC.

BIG 12:
=========
Texas already beat OU and they'll slaughter Okee State. No one in the north has a chance.

SEC:
=======
You know it will be Florida and Alabama and Fla will get a lucky win.

PAC-10:
=======
Barring an Oregon upset of USC, it'll be USC. No shocker here. I just want to also say that I have degraded the Pac-10 into oblivion over the past few years, but this season the conference was very strong from top to bottom. There are a number of teams who are all moving in the right direction, most notably Oregon. Bellotti was a little too laid back for my tastes, but Kelly is not. This coaching change might honestly be what pushes Oregon from "really close" to "there". Stay tuned.

C-USA:
=======
Looks like Houston is the top team here, and I was pretty let down by my So Miss boys and Tulsa.

MAC:
========
Probably going to be Temple and CMU, CMU will win that.

WAC:
========
Boise will slaughter Nevada.

MTN WEST:
===========
TCU already throttled BYU.

FUN BELT:
==========
Troy is the best team, but Monroe is pretty solid. Give me Troy.

Iowa losing Robinson for the year may really hurt them down the stretch. I feel that they have a bigger chance at losing to Ohio State. They very well could get upset as well by another and not even sharing the title with anyone. But this is a team that all year has found a way to win so I'm not about to place any money against them.

Wegher is very explosive and has deceptive strength. Really wish PSU would have won that recruiting battle over Iowa.

And the ACC overall kinda had to improve: Miami has been down, FSU has been down; V Tech down by their standards....both N. Carolina squads improving, GT w/a fantastic coach now (Vmans team to watch in '09), WF has been very tough last few & Clemson, well they are Clemson & should have a better yr this yr.& BC is steady.......That's 9 good teams by my estimation 8)

vman, you think GT will see a national championship under this coach and his triple option attack? Still amazed at how he turned around Navy. A few years ago they could not even win a game it seemed like, now what is it 7 consecutive bowls with wins over teams such as wake forest becoming normal, maybe the BE will try to pick up Navy in the future.

PRESEASON RANK
CONF NATIONAL
PHIL STEELE 3C 28
LINDY'S 2C 16
ATHLON 3C 22

You know paddy, I keep expecting ACC to get better collectively & I think this will help Geo Tech's recruiting but visions of a national title?? I don't know....But hey Clemson in '81, BYU '84, Colorado & Geo Tech in '90....Bottom line is coaching matters & I luv this guy! Not easy preparing for/assimilating triple option in like 3 days of practice!! Here's PJ's recent record:

2002 Navy 2–10
2003 Navy 8–5
2004 Navy 10–2
2005 Navy 8–4
2006 Navy 9–4
2007 Navy 8–4

Navy: 45–29

Georgia Tech
2008 Geo Tech 9–4
2009 Geo Tech 7 -1

You take out 1st yr @ Navy & you have a 59 - 24 record last 7 yrs! And remember Navy was 1 - 20 the 2 years before he took over!

Georgia Tech was really impressive in their bowl loss over LSU last year. :roll:
