Pitt vs. Notre Dame

Post by Crimson09Crazy »

Well here comes the 3 game stretch that will make or break the season for Pitt. Pitt comes into this game as arguably one of the hottest teams in the country. We arent getting much love from the BCS, but we cant worry about that. Pitt controls their own destiny. This game lost some luster with the Naval Academy knocking off ND last week, but it is still a big game with big name players and big time hype. To be honest with everyone, It hasn't been this exciting to be a Pitt football fan in a while, this late into the season. People arent talking about Basketball and the real potential of the Sugar Bowl or Orange Bowl is there. Not only is this game a big game for Pitt, but it is big for the Big East. If Pitt were to win it would give ND 4 losses and take them away from the Gator Bowl giving the Big East their bowl back. Also its a HUGE game for Charlie Weis. His job is really insecure at this point in time. He needs this win. This game doesn't hurt Pitt in the chase for the BCS, but certainly we want to keep the pressure on Cincinnati.

For the teams.... Pitt's offense is explosive. Dion Lewis has really made people forget about Shady. This guy is reeeeallllly good. Stull has progressed soo much since last season and still finds himself in the top 5 of passing efficiency. Baldwin and Dickerson are both having great years and are making defenses rreally think about who to cover. Pitt's D has stepped up of late and are being pretty stingy on the ground. The D-Line goes 8 deep and the LB's have really improved since September. The weakness is still the pass defense and Notre Dame won't be shy about trying to exploit it.Jimmy Clausen has also been one of the most improved QB's in the land, and they will count on him to account for a lot of the offense Saturday. He'll be throwing to Golden Tate(reminds me of Hines Ward) and he is supposed to get back his other top target in Michael Floyd. ND has really been shaky this year, but no doubt they'll want to knock Pitt off and get to a New Year's Day Bowl game.

My call on the game, Notre Dame does not have a good defense and really has built their record up on some weak opponents.....weak opponents that almost beat them. Pitt is flying high and playing really well. But as a lifelong Pitt fan, I know what has happened quite a bit for Pitt in marquee games. They cant let the hype get to their head. They are ranked in the top 10 and now they need to play like a top 10 team.

Dion runs wild. Stull finds Dickerson for a couple of TD's. Pitt wins and keeps creeping up the polls.
PANTHERS 38 FIGHTIN IRISH 27

Well I know I'm looking at about 18,000 Notre Dame fans Saturday in our field, but the stadium will be packed. 8 o clock game ABC National TV...Big tailgates gonna be lots of fun, can't wait.

Look for me on tv in the Student Section with my Mark May > Lou Holts sign.

A big game for Pitt locally, too. Pitt has a chance this year to make its mark in the PA, WV, and OH area. Ohio State may still win the Big Ten but at the same time has two losses and very well could finish the season with more. Penn State has $hit the bed this year and really has no hope of a top 10 finish. Pitt has a chance to finish ranked higher than any other school from PA, WV, and OH. Can anyone tell me the last time that happened? Ohio State and Penn State continue to prove they won't get away from vanilla offenses in big games so Pitt could really use that in future recruiting wars. West Virginia should not be better than Pitt just for geographical reasons. More talent comes out of one division of the WPIAL than probably the entire state of WV.

Pitt now has a chance to pack its stadium, win a conference, and finish in the top 10. Could the tide by turning for Wanny?
