Apologies due...
Re: Apologies due...
Ahhh...
A moving target.
So, now it's not page 3 that is the problem... it is the front page.
You claim to know a great deal about journalism...
How about deadlines?
Perhaps the United stuff came in first and the layout guy put it on the front page, because he knew the Somerset story and photos would arrive to close to deadline?
Or, maybe someone felt a playoff game WAS more important...
Is the course of human mankind going to be altered by the fact that the Bailey story was on page 3?

Re: Apologies due...
There is no first round playoff game in D5 or 6 that should take precedence over a coach winning his 300th game and capping an undefeated season.
Deadlines... what was the deadline, 10:30? Hell, only 1,000 ppl read the dang paper anyways, they couldn't push back the deadline? Nice excuse, Eminem.
Explain why the Blacklick Valley story was on the last page. First ever playoff game they ever hosted was played this weekend. I guess that deserves "last page" mention, right?
Face it, the paper is run by editors who may or may not have a GED. Every time I come home, all I see in that paper are errors in spelling and punctuation and grammar. Where are the editors? Unfortunately, the Democrat writers and staff are so beaten and underpaid that they have succumbed to the "VLE" approach: Very Little Effort.
And the irony of it is that the reason the sales are so low is because the writing sucks.
If you had HS students in creative writing classes turn in papers to you without any names on them, and you mixed in Tribune articles without any names attached, you would not be able to tell the difference.
Let's also keep in mind that not only are we NOT talking about the front page, we aren't even talking about the FRONT PAGE of the Sports section. We are talking about page three of the HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SECTION. Now YOU get a life.

Re: Apologies due...
I'm sure that 99% of the sports fans in the district felt that FH would beat Somerset last Friday night. The Tribune should have been prepared to have an article about Bailey ready for the Saturday paper. If FH would have lost, then don't include it until the next win down the line. Irregardless, 300 high school coaching victories is a milestone which should have been acknowledged the next day. Let's face it, People Magazine has already written the story of Hugh Hefner's life, as preparation of his demise on short notice for their issue immediately following his death. Do you think Hugh's gonna die and someone is going to run to the library to do research on him???? The Tribune missed the boat on Bailey and his achievements the day after his milestone win.

1,000 people read the paper... Can't tell the difference between creative writing students and T-D writers... Do you have a crystal ball Old Fart?
I think they have over 30,000 subscribers...
Regular sports section? I'm sure it has the same deadline... I would assume if that many people buy the paper, they also read it...
Blacklick Valley on the last page of the tab? That was a preview for Saturday. Why would that be more important than the results of the Friday games, and be moved to say, page 3? Simple jounalism 101.

But, you do have to wonder about the mental health of someone who gets that fired up about a story about high school football, or someone who posts over 6,000 times on one message board.

Re: Apologies due...
Without getting in the middle of something here. I'll say they could have featured the fact a little more prominently without writing a big article. HOWEVER, I'd like to take my hat off to the writer, who actually respected the wishes of a local icon and did what HE wanted. Not too many people, let alone media folks think of the people they are writing or reporting about. I respect that alot. KUDOS!!

Re: Apologies due...
The bottom line is this: Don Bailey's 300th win, which was the 9th time it happened in state history, not only was not good enough for the Main section, not only was it not good enough for the Sports section, it was not even good enough for the front page of the High School FOOTBALL section. You speaka Spanish?
End of argument.
Eagle alum, they did not need to step on Don's wishes by running 1-2 small articles last week. It is NOT the job of the journalist to let the subject decide when and how the story is told. There was no build-up. What they should have done was teased it a few times all week to get people fired up about his accomplishment. Calling Tim Baumgardener or Tommy Grosik to talk about Don is NOT stepping on Don's toes. That's all I am saying, this argument is over.

Dude... it was a high school football game.
The sun came up Saturday, and Sunday...
Like most people of your mentality, you throw out many non-factual statements to support your side of the story... then run and hide.
Now, Bozo, the argument is over.
Go post a few thousand more non-facts.
Re: Apologies due...
It's been a long day. Just read Mike Mastovich's article on page 2 of today's Tribune sports page, and if anybody owes anyone an apology, it's Emanon who started this topic in the first place. Entitled "Class Act", Mastovich spent the first 6 paragraphs of the article covering his rear end for not having written the Bailey article sooner, like last Saturday. Unlike what Emanon said, Bailey did not want an article about his 300th win written "UNTIL HE ACTUALLY ACHIEVED THE MILESTONE"!!!!!!! He never said that an article should not be written, as Emanon stated. As the article stated, "Bailey did not feel comfortable talking about 300 wins when he still had 299. He didn't want to take anything away from his player's preparation, and he certainly didn't want to inadvertantly slight that week's opponent, a struggling Somerset squad". So what took Mastovich 6 days to write it, one day before Bailey's next game???? Again, couldn't he have had an article written about Bailey's 300th before hand and inserted in the paper on Saturday???? So Emanon, we'll be waiting for YOUR apology.
Re: Apologies due...
Apologize?
I think not...
A great deal of fuss about a HS football game...
Perhaps you can PM Ancient Enemy, before you put on your green and yellow jammies for bed.

C'mon Emanon. Be a man. You gave erroneous info to the thousands of readers here on Bleachercoaches. Your implications about Mastovich not writing an article about Bailey were wrong. Apologize!!
