PSU does not need more emphasis on ST.

Post by The Ancient Enemy »

In 2008, PSU was 11th in the country in net punting and only gave up 64 punt return yards all season.

Ray Small had 130 yards on Saturday night.

Avg of four years:
40th in punt returns.
32nd in punt coverage.
38th in kickoff returns.
67th on kickoff coverage

This is not reminiscent of a major college football program, folks.

Joe Paterno: "Maybe we need to spend a couple more minutes on it."

No, jack***, you need to spend a lot more than a couple minutes. No matter how unexciting you think ST are, they are 33% of the game. How the hell can anyone overlook the massive amount of games Virginia Tech has won b/c of the ST emphasis down there? How about this: take "a couple minutes" away from teaching your CBs soft zone coverages and start practicing kickoffs and punt coverage.

For any of you coaches out there, or just football buffs in general...

Can you explain to me, please, how it made sense to Joe Paterno to put Jerome Hayes, the starting DE w. 2 serious knee injuries, in the 2nd to last line on kick return? All he did was catch a KO, take off up field and shotput the ball 60 yards.

That was their ST adjustment.

3 fumbled punt returns, a fumbled kick return, missed field goals. Thank God they were playing Indiana.

What a great accomplishment for Daryll Clark. You can pick between Indiana and Temple as Clark's signature win as a starter.

Currently, the Nittany Lions are ranked No. 114 in net punting (32.28 yards per punt), No. 107 in punt returns (5.18 yards per return), No. 113 in kickoff returns (18.38 yards per return), No. 117 in punt return yardage defense (16.5 yards per return), and No. 57 in kickoff return yardage defense (21.35 yards per return).

I guarantee you Turkeyfoot would beat Penn State.
