Re: More on the Dion Lewis Misconception.
Here's some fodder you morons can look up.
Since there is now a claim that PSU gives preferential treatment to their student athletes... and this of course doesn't happen at any other university... even though I know for a fact UNT built Victory Hall and is strictly athletic dorms... maybe you can PROVE Pitt doesn't do this?
Here's my theory if they don't: Since Penn State's athletic department does not operate on any other university funding and is totally self-sufficient, and PSU can afford to beef up football facilities, basketball facilities, hire a million dollar wrestling coach, build a state of the art wrestling facility, pamper recruits heavily, build athlete dorms... You get the idea. Maybe my claim was correct when I said Pitt is having trouble funding their athletics?
But... how could they?
Maybe they have trouble because they sell half their stadium in football each week, lose to NC State, blow 31-10 leads in 16 million dollar games? How much is the Car Care Bowl payout? Do they even pay out, or did they promise to change the university vehicles' brake pads for half price? Hey, it'll cut down on the noise in Oakland, at least.

Re: More on the Dion Lewis Misconception.
Here's something you forget to mention, Mr. IsenTAEberg:
The payouts DO NOT MATTER! All of that money from bowls is shared. So, even UCONN will get enough to cover their expenses, and all the free pizza they can eat!
Of course Pitt doesn't sell out their stadium...I explained the reasons why Pitt will never have attendance as good as PSU's, and none of it has to do with blowing leads, or losing games. It has to do with PSU having many more times alumni than Pitt, etc. IUP has about as many, probably more alums over the past 25-30 years than Pitt!
Case in Point: UMiami is also an urban college, similar to Pitt...UMiam's attendance is worse than Pitts, but UMiami has 5 NCs (to PSU's 2) in the last 25 years...UMiami wins and yet their attendance is poor. What don't you understand about that?
Pitt's athletic programs are just fine, and fully funded. Pitt is building a state of the art Olympic sports complex (soccer, baseball, softball, track and field) adjacent to campus.
Given your poorly conceived reasoning here, I can fully understand why you're still making $20k a year working at a small time newspaper covering class A teams like Portage.

Re: More on the Dion Lewis Misconception.
NOW I am truly offended!!! You pulled the "Isenberg Card"! You know I can write better than that with my hands tied around a table. Here's something you forget to mention, Mr. IsenTAEberg:
I would love free pizza, and I am rooting for UCONN.So, even UCONN will get enough to cover their expenses, and all the free pizza they can eat!
But the payouts DO matter, though, because even though it is shared, programs get more money if the payouts are higher. I think this was covered in 6th grade Math, maybe you didn't have Mrs. Barton, I dunno.
Unfortunately, keemosabee, yes it does. No one cares about a losing team. If Pitt was competitive the past 25 years, attendance would be much better.I explained the reasons why Pitt will never have attendance as good as PSU's, and none of it has to do with blolwing leads, or losing games.
.It has to do with PSU having many more times alumni than Pitt, etc
Do people go to PSU because it is a better education???
And 3 times as many wins this decade in football.IUP has about as many, probably more alums over the past 25-30 years than Pitt!
Sorry, chuckles, wrong again. Miami is a poor example. How about Boston College? Miami is a traditionally poor area for ALL sports teams, not just the Canes. This is why the Marlins, who won 2 recent World Series I believe, are always struggling, and why there have been rumors about the Panthers relocating since NHL inception in Miami. The Miami comparison is not valid.Case in Point: UMiami is also an urban college, similar to Pitt...UMiam's attendance is worse than Pitts, but UMiami has 5 NCs (to PSU's 2) in the last 25 years...UMiami wins and yet their attendance is poor. What don't you understand about that?
Let me also explain something. The city of Pittsburgh has a rabid football fanbase. It is a football city. Do you honest to God believe that the inhabitants of our fair Burgh would not support Pitt football if Pitt actually won games? You guys blew a 31-10 lead in a game where the title was on the line and a BCS birth was at stake. This is par of the Pitt course, Titan. You have GOT to win games! You cannot go 25 years and expect the fans to give a rat's rear-end about the team. You cannot sit there and act like Pittsburgh's populace just magically hates Pitt football for no apparent reason. There is a very good reason. It is not because there are free Kennywood tickets and bus trips to Idlewild.
That's just a flat lie, I make at least $21k combined from my 7 jobs and I only cover the Laurel Highlands!!!!Given your poorly conceived reasoning here, I can fully understand why you're still making $20k a year working at a small time newspaper covering class A teams like Portage.

Re: More on the Dion Lewis Misconception.
Reread my 1st paragraph SPIN MASTER ENIMA! I said I guess that is what you will claim next...we all know schools do this! But of course you nitters will probably try to claim the opposite because joke pa would never cheat. He does it the right way! haha. Just like schools give breaks on admission for athletes. Just like schools send athletes to prep school. They are all the same. Even your beloved alma mater....ooops my bad. It's not. So please quit freakin spinning this all over the place. You are not impressing your district 5/6 audience with your inability to prove a point with facts.shocker wrote:I guess next we will hear that psu doesnt give their athletes preferential treatment when it comes to scheduling, eating, or dorm room arrangements like all other big time schools do?
Everytime a kid turns down psu and goes to Pitt doesn't mean Pitt's standards are lower. Or when psu backs off a kid because they found a better kid at a certain position doesn't mean their admissions are better. It happens all the time in college sports and the recruiting process. Kids change their minds.....schools back off kids for a million reasons.
A prep school kid (regardless of what prep school) obviously isn't the best student. psu has had them and so has Pitt. It doesn't get anymore black and white than that. The two latest were D Clark and Lewis. One went to psu and one to Pitt.
When you can show some documentation from each school showing Pitts athletic admissions are worse than psu's then you win. Until then.......
Spin all you want to on this subject which I am sure you will.

TAE, we will agree to disagree on the points of PItt's attendance, the myth that PSU has higher admissions standards for athletes, etc...but just answer me this: Are you bitter because you're not working for the TD or Mirror?

Re: More on the Dion Lewis Misconception.
A kid changing his mind and going to a different football program is a lot different than a kid "changing his mind" because some of the schools he had in contention all told him his grades weren't good enough for them. Do you understand this yet?
What part of this don't you get: Running Back A has it narrowed to Penn State, Michigan, Pitt, and Miami. 3 of those schools told him his grades were not good enough. One of those 3 actually sent him to prep school. Now, take a guess... out of those 4 schools I named... where RB A ended up.
Cornerback A loves Penn State but his grades are iffy. He has it narrowed to Pitt and Penn State. One of them told him he is immediately accepted and one is waiting for his next set of grades to see if he took their advice about getting his academics in order. Take a guess which is Pitt and which is Penn State.
Judging by figures released Monday, one of two schools graduates 85% of their players. The other graduates 69%. One of them graduates 84% of their black student-athletes. The other graduates 58%. Which one is Pitt and which is Penn State?
That 58% embarrassment ain't just b/c McCoy left early, dudes. How many kids did PSU lose? Devlin, Marks, Ditto, all the linemen who were in trouble...
Wide Receiver A is a tremendous talent. Rated as a 4-star player on Rivals but he's clearly under the radar and is a 5-star player. He has it narrowed down to Michigan, Penn State, Pitt, AKRON, and CLEMSON. The ACC school listed is notorious for taking anyone with quick feet and a heart beat. There is only ONE reason the Akron Zips would make a final 5 of a kid this good, and it ain't because he is pursuing a career in kangaroo studies. All of a sudden, his grades come out, and magically the lines from Ann Arbor and Happy Valley stop ringing in his household. He has a final 3 of Clemson, Akron, and Pitt. Pitt takes him no questions asked. But, unfortunately, he ends up having to go to Milford, because not even Pitt could get him eligible.
You speeka Spanish? If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...
The athletic admissions are lower, ladies.
Titan,
To be totally honest, I have a good friend who works for the Tribune and from what she tells me, that place is even worse than you can imagine. I'll stay at The Monthly Ranger and eat ice cream and interview Joe Carpenter for $4 an hour.

So SPIN MASTER ENIMA, you now work part time in the admission office? You saw first hand these grades that came out and spoke to the coaches who denied him admission?? dang you may have more pull than we all thought.
DJ Spin - what about your boy D Clark and his grades?? Oh that's right the psu coaches kept tabs on him so that makes it all better.

Dear TAE,
We know the importance of education. We have reviewed your transcripts and we know you are a theoretical borderline academic student. We know Penn State wants you to go to Milford for a year. But we accept you, wholeheartedly even though your grades are bad, right here in Oakland at the Univeristy of Pittsburgh.
We look forward to you joining our journalism degree program and if you feel like playing foortball, hell, we'll let you pick what position you want to play, just like we did with all our 2010 recruits.

This thread should be renamed the TAE MISCONCEPTION.
Spin master - still waiting for facts that d clark is smarter than lewis and how going to prep school is different for psu kids and Pitt kids. And that standards are better at psu than pitt. Do you now work at admissions?
And the letter you wrote to yourself (which I am sure you are used to doing), is way off. I think you meant Pitt would accept you onto the cheer squad or maybe the golden girl squad. Or maybe you meant the water boy for the football team but I highly doubt you ever played a down of football in your life.
