Suter is actually the 215 winner...2 NB freshmen 5th Mason Replogle at 103, Drew Gartland at 125...2 Sollenberger cousins, 6th, Matt 140, Willie 145 and Brallier 8th at 135...
Cougars from North Star...Roberts breezes to 103 title (of course)...Beeman 2nd at 119, Lascari 2nd at 130, Baker 3rd at 145...Mostellor 7th or 8th at 112..might have missed a lower place.

ALVERTON — As a returning PIAA state champion, Nick Roberts will wear a target on his back in nearly every match he wrestles this season.

While it wasn’t the pressure-packed stage of Hershey, the North Star sophomore took care of business with three straight falls en route to winning the 103-pound title at the Southmoreland Holiday Classic on Wednesday.

Roberts was the only champion among three North Star wrestlers in the finals. Brian Beeman earned runner-up honors at 119 pounds and Joe Lascari placed second at 130.

Roberts recorded a second-period pin over Tyler Reinhart of Greensburg-Salem in the championship bout.

“There were some good young kids here at 103 trying to make a name for themselves just like Nick did last year,” Cougars coach Pat Berzonski said. “I think this was a good statement for him here. He hasn’t really been challenged yet this year. He came out and responded well.”

Beeman, in only his second year of wrestling, pinned his way to the finals at 119 where he dropped a close 3-1 decision to Baldwin’s Fomba Sheriff. Beeman knocked off the No. 1 seed in the quarterfinals.

“You’re looking at a kid who had one win last year,” Berzonski said. “He kept working hard and stuck with it. He’s a young man now who has good direction. It’s a testament to his hard work and dedication that he’s given to the sport.”

Lascari earned three consecutive wins to reach the finals at 130. He held a 4-2 lead over Jeannette’s Mike Depalma entering the third period, but Depalma put Lascari on his back while executing a takedown and went on to record the fall in 5:26. Depalma was voted the tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler.

Two other North Star wrestlers placed, including Richard Baker (3rd at 145) and freshman Tayte Mostoller (7th at 112).

The Cougars finished sixth in the 25-team field.

“I’m really pleased with the way the team wrestled,” Berzonski said. “They came out and really battled. We won a lot of close matches. Hopefully, we can keep moving in the right direction.”

Meyersdale also competed in the tournament. Stephen McKenzie (4th at 112), Eli Kerr (5th at 215), Collin Day (7th at 119) and Shawn McKenzie (8th at 140) all placed to lead the Red Raiders.

“The guys wrestled tough,” Meyersdale coach Chadd Sines said. “We’re a young team. We had four place. I’d like to have more, but the guys showed some good signs.”

Fellow District 5 school Northern Bedford had one individual champ, Joel Suter at 215. Forest Hills’ Chris Gallaher claimed the 160-pound title.

Tournament brackets wrong at 103,
NB earns 5th place over Baldwin. also Jeannette loses tons of points at 125 so they drop out of top 10 and move 4 or five teams up a place.

Yeah, that's my bad=Suter was at 215 and looked good. I realized I made a mistake while I was at work and had no access to a computer there. Malson and Dudley went at it in the 189 pound Class Finals. Sorry.

Good summary fellas. Too bad you don't write for one of the pathetic periodicals that choose NOT to cover an event like this, and we have to find out the results days after the fact. Thanks again.
