Best student section in the state...
Re: Best student section in the state...
I thought it was the "start your tractors" chant that silenced the CC side and then "Mary had a little lamb" just agitated them.Bendover12 wrote:CC's the pit a couple years back was pretty good but the best ive seen with my own two eyes was Westmonts when they went 26-1 they played at a hostile CC back when they slaughtered the lambs so Westmonts sutdetns section ang Marry had a Little Lamb and CC was dead silent

CC's Pit was a real good one... Recently Tyrone has established a pretty hostile one as well.

Erie Cathedral Prep has a great student section, it's an all male school and the students do crazy cheers and tumble at halftime. It's hilarious.
Mount Lebanon and Upper Saint Clair do pretty well in terms of student support in the WPIAL. Each game is a theme night (Hawaiian night, Disco night, Dress Like the Opposing Coach Night, and a night where they don't say a word, until the other team touches the ball they go nuts and make as much noise as they can, then go silent when their team has the ball, until timeouts where they go nuts for their team.)
Benedictine Academy in Richmand, VA also has a vociferous all-male student section. All male students at the Academy are REQUIRED TO ATTEND all basketball games and cheer as loudly as they can for their team, while showing sportsmanship. It is intimidating to see all of the Cadets marching in before the game in their school uniforms. Their gym is old, and seats about 2500 and was PACKED. I watched a game there a few years ago that was as loud as any game I have ever attended.

BG is always good for a theme night every game. McCort usually has a good following, but not as of lately. Westmont's morgue is always a good one.

Re: Best student section in the state...
Tyrone had a great student section last year and the first half of this year, but the school has since banned the student section due to a video on youtube. A few of Tyrone students made a video to immitate sort of a College Gameday where they had three people predict games before the game and announce and give comments to the camera during halftime and after the game. They even interviewed some of the players after the game and the video was quite funny i thought, as it was intended. But during the video, one of the students said that Bald Eagle sucked and that they were playing awful. This somehow got to the school board and now the students are no longer allowed to have a student section. This is absolutly terrible in my opinion because the students were just having fun and i dont think went over the top with it. Its just a shame that one of the best student sections around has been shut down.

I understand there are some times when the administration needs to step in, but lately I think a few of them go too far. Westmont is so desperate to win the LHAC sportsmanship award, that they offer free admission to all of their students. The only price is that they demonstrate good sportsmanship... I remember during a girl's playoff game last year a student shouted "You can't do that" and was almost ejected from the game by the principle for singling a player on the opposing team out. I'm not trying to make too many excuses for the Westmont Morgue (at least we have a nickname...) but sometimes the administration just needs to let the kids be kids.

Blacklick Valley's "Black Hole" Section should be in full swing tomorrow vs the Ferndale Yellow Jackets. Those two teams really seem to gear up for each other.
