PSU Men's BBall named Environmental Superfund Site.

Post by The Ancient Enemy »

DeChellis is in his 7th year of rebuilding at Penn State. DeChellis has earned a pitiful Big 10 conference record of just 29 wins and 76 losses. To most fans a record of 29-76 is pitiful but perhaps worse is the fact that his overall record (which includes games against low and mid major teams) is a likewise a losing count of 92 wins and 112 losses.

There are a lot of people with loser's mentalities that say things like "PSU men's bball can never be good" and "you have to cheat to win in Men's bball".

First, that's ridiculous. The mentality that you can't win at Penn State is beyond absurd. The second school of thought is equally as mindless. There are dozens of coaches who achieve success in men's basketball w/ a clean program.

DeChellis won B10 coach of the year, and won the NIT. I personally feel that winning the NIT, for a school who sucks, is a very good accomplishment, especially in a playoff format. But you should not be aspiring to play in the NIT.

The roster, 7 seasons in, is very unbalanced. There's no seniors. And no, its not because we send kids to tne NBA early. How is this roster so unbalanced, with no big-men worth a crap, 7 seasons into a tenure? I will say that the recruiting effort has been better, but why has it taken 6-7 years to get there?

You obviously cant fire the guy after winning the NIT, which is the most success they've had in years, and knowing this year was going to be rough. But losing close game after close game is a sign of poor coaching.

At what point do you pull the plug? If they can't get into the NIT this year, I think it's time to pull the plug.

There has been more focus placed on basketball and other sports by the university, and I think they are starting to slowly realize that they are putting too much pressure on the football program by disregarding the potential basketball revenue. It really is kind of stupid that they haven't understood this yet, but I digress.

One of the guys in the Lion's Den is advocating for the coach at Dayton, who is a former Izzo assistant who wins with a clean program at a mid-major. You don't need Calipari, you need a guy who gives a "crap" about the school and the kids.

There's a lot of ppl who want Ed DeChellis fired, but there's not many people offering resolutions. Name names. Who do you want to coach this team?

Penn State had ONE basketball scholarship to give out for next season, and they gave it out the night they won the NIT. So Taran Buie accepted that scholarship in April 2009, and won't take the court til November 2010. WOW!!! You're gonna lose alot of contacts with high schools when you're not out there actively recruiting anyone for the next year. Sure you can start recruiting for 2011-12, but that's a LONG way off. And what are your selling points? Possibly 7 out of 8 losing seasons???

How about wonderful facilities, academics, and a gorgeous campus? See, if they had a decent coach, they they add all that stuff to "possible winning season" but they don't.

I said before I was willing to give Eddie another season, but my patience is all dried up.
