Whats going on @ Bishop Carroll?
Re: Whats going on @ Bishop Carroll?
Too bad they all couldn't have signed on at Forest Hills. These 3 gentlemen have played the game, suceeded, and have alot of knowledge of the game.It definately would have been improvement there.FH has had some awfully talented teams and individuals in the last 5 or 6 years and only 1 district championship to show for it.Something is missing and it starts right at the top!And Casey Long is a teacher in the FH middle school.

Baseball is a sport like wrestling. It's a team sport, but you're on your own when you're playing. Coaching is important, but the coach can't help you when you step up to the plate, or try to field that hot grounder at short. And except for George Roberts, where was all that talent again?????

It gets even better.....I found out today that Watkins is stilling play pro ball, so he will be leaving the area in late February to head south. So, he was hired to coach for 1 month?

A diocese school, advertising in the Trib? You sir, are MAD! Next you will say they should have ad spots on TV and the radio, too. Unbelievable! Preposterous!
It ain't over until it's over.
Re: Whats going on @ Bishop Carroll?
Moldy,You seem like a"fairly" bright individual and I agree with you but a good coach will "see" that he has alot of potential for certain years returning and find the right combo to have that team succeed. And you say where was all that talent??????. You got to to be kidding me! Two years ago (FH class of '08) had 4 or 5 starting pitchers returning along with solid hitting. That much pitching for a high school is unheard of around here. The team was under achievers and I blame that on lack of solid coaching.Players throwing to the wrong base, missing signs, not hustling, etc. You can always say"what if" but it won't happen at FH because most of the players don't like the coaches and alot of them just go thru the motions. The coaches can "talk" a good game but can't produce one.

I wonder what the allure was for Casey to coach at BC? I wish him well.
"I've never lost a single game that I've coached from the stands!"
Re: Whats going on @ Bishop Carroll?
Regarding playing baseball on the high school level:
1) If you really have baseball talent, you don't need alot of coaching
2) If you are "throwing to the wrong base, missing signs and not hustling", then you really don't have baseball talent.
It's quite simple.

Re: Whats going on @ Bishop Carroll?
Moldo, that team had tremendous talent.
Roberts- doing well at Kent State
Skoner- doing well at SFU
Reighard- was pitching at UPJ last I heard
Kirby- hell of a player who chose not to play college ball
Gdula- good player
Shope- good player
Paulson- good player
Gallaghar- future d1 prospect?
To say FH didn't have a lot of talent, especially pitching, is a lie. This team was loaded, and the ended up getting bounced in the first round of the playoffs. It was a little bit coaching, a little bit effort, and a little bit team chemistry. To compare baseball and wrestling is very wrong, baseball requires MUCH more team chemistry and communication than wrestling does. This team was loaded with talent and poor coaching/effort gave them a barely .500 record. That senior class a couple years ago underachieved in almost everything; football (the infamous 4-6 season), basketball, and baseball. Coincidently, it was FH's first decent boys track season in recent memories. Those kids just weren't the usual FH kids..

This is a football thread, but anyway... Just to clarify, those four players weren't underachievers - they were good enough to lead Delweld to the AAABA tournament that year.
