Re: WPIAL Playoff Brackets
psycho, I agree that the quality of boys' basketball in the metro Pittsburgh area is not very good, as compared to other major metro areas in heh US.
Let's talk about this for a minute...What's the record of District 5 and 6 teams against the WPIAL in PIAA boys' games over the last 15-20 years? I think that we both know the answer to that. The last time I checked, Districts 5 and 6 won approximately 20% of PIAA games played vs. the WPIAL over the past decade or so. Take away a few nice PIAA runs by State College, Altoona, and Johnstown over the past decade or so, and the percentage is closer to 10%.
If the WPIAL is pitiful, what's that make District 5 and 6?
Here's the point: The quality of boys' basketball in all of western PA is weak. With that said, the PIAA boys' tournament in the western bracket runs directly through the WPIAL.
Have a great day!

Re: WPIAL Playoff Brackets
You got a point as far as boys are concerned. I agree that boys hoops in D5-6 is really bad. But we make up for it with the girls. Girls rule in D6. There are currently 9 girls teams ranked or recognized in the Patriot News poll in A and AA. Do you have any stats telling you how WPIAL girls teams have done against D6 last 10 years? I don't know. But finding that 9 girls teams up here are ranked is pretty impressive - wouldn't you agree?
