Steroids....

Post by Coach »

I'm sick of hearing about it. The thing that is crazy is that they act like it only happened in baseball. If I have to hear about these reports for basketball, hockey, and football in the coming years I don't think I'll watch sports shows on tv any more. I mean do they think that hockey players haven't taken anything... they way their bodies get beat up? Anyway...just figured bring a new topic to this forum.

Cough medicine used to be widely abused in hockey several years ago. This was the cough medicine that contained ephederene, a stimulant.

What strikes me as odd how much outrage exist over the baseball players yet Merriman for the Chargers get little or no grief.

It is also a joke for baseball to say they are testing for drugs using urine test. They need to do blood test for better test results.

The cost of that is outrageous. You can make your own steroid variant in your basement if you know some chemistry. Smart users will always stay ahead by changing variants. You would have to have a warehouse full of blood samples of these players in order to catch every case.

It's certainly not fair that baseball players are vilified far more than football players for the same offense. There are 2 reasons for this.... first, football was smart enough to institute their own policy a long time ago without a great deal of outside influence. This gave the impression that they were serious about cleaning up their own house. In truth, they give only a slap on the wrist for a first infraction. As mentioned earlier, they only use urine tests which will not catch many users.

The second reason is that steroids help baseball players more than football players, at least statistically. Rushing totals, passing totals, sacks, tackles, etc. have not increased tremendously with the introduction of steroids. However, baseball saw a huge spike in home runs with the help of steroids. Home run records have always been sacred in baseball and now they are forever tarnished.

Despite the cost, they do need to use blood tests. The Olympians are not only tested through blood tests, but their samples are frozen and stored for 8 years. Just because a drug is not being detected today does not mean it won't be uncovered in the next 8 years. If you are certain that your steroid of choice will go undetected for the next 8 years, then I guess you are safe. It is certainly expensive, but I'm pretty sure these billion dollar leagues can find the resources to run a program similar to the Olympics if they are serious about ending performance enhancing drugs.

A report just came in Alex Rodriguez was tested positive for 2 steriods in 2003 testosterone and Primobolan. I have never like arod but we all knew this was going to come out, at age 33 hitting 553 homeruns.....sounds to good to be true. I would not be surprised if other players names like andruw jones or brian giles names come out.
