Championship Site.
Dear District 6 Basketball Committee,
I think it is time that our district can choose a site where all the A and AA Championships both boys and girls can be played. I would love to see all 4 classifications, but the fact that we only have 4 AAAA schools and a few more AAA schools, it would be hard to incorporate them too. But as for A and AA I think the District would benefit by having one lone site to play the lower classifications. Why? Just look at the highlights of this weekend's WPIAL finals. There was capacity crowds on hand and thats an atmosphere that can't be created by splitting up the games across the region. Its a special thing to work all season for to get to a certain place. Baseball everyone is excited to play at the BCB, or football goes to Mansion Park without fail. Basketball....oh we get to play at the Hollidaysburg Senior High School....ehh doesnt give off the that same luster. The atmosphere created at the WPIAL's is what High School Basketball is all about. And we lost St. Francis for whatever reason. That was a perfect place. It's a Division 1 facility that has seating and can get very loud. Also for the player's perspective its an opportunity to play at a D1 court and that definitely adds to the whole Championship experience.
Suggestions for a 1 single place to play the D6 games....
St. Francis-Like I said before, It has more then enough capacity and is a Division 1 court. Great atmosphere.
War Memorial-Well they don't have to worry about scheduling around the Chiefs anymore  so thats a plus. But the War Memorial is very spacious. Lots of seating and is a pretty cool event because its the first time HS bball players would be playing in an arena and not a gym. The floor is a former NBA court I believe. Awesome to play on it. Makes anyone feel like they could jump.
UPJ-Although it sits in D6, District 5 has been using this venue for years but we kinda stole it for this afternoon. Its bigger then a HS gym but not quite St. Francis level. It can get real loud...that Northern Cambria-Bishop McCort girls game a few years back was something to see.

Re: Championship Site.
Why does D5 basketball use UPJ and not a D5 site. Doesn't make sense not to use a neutral site like they do in every other sport.
Also as a team, I would think you would have to rework your game plan due to the size of the court of which most teams aren't use to playing on.

Re: Championship Site.
Isn't IUP building an arena Kavalchik Center or something like that.
Re: Championship Site.
I believe St. Francis was originally to be the site but the womens' program there was awarded their conference playoff tournament.
As for UPJ being D5's site, there isn't any site in D5 that is big enough so UPJ has long been their home site.

Re: Championship Site.
iup's kovalchick convention center will be state-of-the-art... but indiana is on the far end of d6.
Re: Championship Site.
there is a little place on the other side district 6 (which is in centre county) called the bryce jordan center.
Re: Championship Site.
a few other random thoughts: there is no reason whatsoever for district 7 to get five teams in class A and for district 6 to get four for the state brackets. It is too many. considering that d-6 sends two teams to the eastern bracket, and there are 2 play-in games on that side, it should be cut down by a team each in these two districts. that could even things out. secondly, how do you think conemaugh valley feels today after opening the tribune democrat sports. they are basically five minutes from the city, and win a d-6 boys title for the first time in 31 years, and it isn't good enough for the front page. but north star and tussey mt girls winning is. how far is tussey from johnstown? about an hour?

Re: Championship Site.
disagree about state bids. if you allow 32 teams into the state playoffs, you have to split it up proportionally like the do now
tribune favors wrestling and d5. maybe because editor is into wrestling and i think he's from d5. the paper could treat d5 as secondary to d6 like most people do. but instead they go reverse and not only treat them as equals but seem to usually favor d5. would have been interesting to see what paper had looked like if nc would have beat bg (in what was the biggest game yesterday)
i prefer the altoona mirror.

Re: Championship Site.
The BJC would be too big and too empty for D6. That would be cruddy...
The War Memorial has regional wrestling.
The BJC had a PSU game there yesterday.
St. Francis has had things going on two years in a row.
What place would be this guy's choice? Penn State's Rec Hall! That would be big enough to seat anyone that wanted to go and would have that close to the floor type of feel as well. I'd love, love, love it if there were some games there!

Re: Championship Site.
zonebreaker: i know about 32 teams, and proportional bids, but it is 34 teams with the play-in games. 3 from d-6 and 4 from d-7 are enough to still satisfy the proportions. and as for the tribune...i still think it is a bit of a slap to cv, given their location and mastovich i think being from there.
