So Frank Coonelly thinks that this is the beginning of the next Pirates Dynasty. Is he the dumbest person in baseball, or does he think we are the most gullible fans? He should have been fired on the spot for saying something that stupid. How do you take anything this guy says or does seriously?

My take:
Starting pitching is average at best. I have said for years I wonder how the Pirates record would have been in the past if they would have a legit Ace at the top of their rotation. Not that he would have ever signed with the Pirates, but how good would the Pirates be if they could have put Roy Halladay at the top of their rotation this season?

About 6 to 7 wins better, so they'd have about 93 to 94 losses, so in other words not that good.

I read an article last week regarding the Pirates spring training report card. It was stated that the pitchers weren't pitching and the hitters weren't hitting. I found that to be very humerous. 2-0 so far and can last nights win be a boost for this young club? I remember attending a game last year on a Sunday and the Pens were there after winning the Stanley Cup. The pirates won that day and were only 4 or 5 games below .500. Then.. well you know. But as the article stated if the pitchers can pitch and the hitters can hit maybe they will flirt with a winning record this year???

they have played 1.2% of the games they're going to play this year.

One night Garret Jones isn't going to drive in 3 runs off of homeruns.

I want the Pirates to succeed as much as the next guy. We'll see what happens when they hit the road for pretty much the majority of the rest of April. If they're 5-7 games above .500, then there's reason for hope. You can't make the first two home games seem like the microcosm of the remaining 160 games to come.

I'm claiming it a victory already. Right now they are in first place. SInging 'We Are Family' as I type. If they stink later, I've had my moment.
Wonder if Drabek and Smiley can still play? They could probably sign them now.
