Re: PIAA State Finals--Again loaded with PRIVATE SCHOOLS!
We settled this Basketball argument yrs. ago......The evidence is irrefutable: Catholic kids are better Basketball players than Public School kids!
I have to say thank you to me ..." for not being stupid enough to go to Penn State."

If all catholic school players were catholic I would find your statement valid.vman wrote:We settled this Basketball argument yrs. ago......The evidence is irrefutable: Catholic kids are better Basketball players than Public School kids!
Why?
Re: PIAA State Finals--Again loaded with PRIVATE SCHOOLS!
"Since 2000 (11 championship seasons), 10 private schools and 1 public school have won basketball championships in the Girls Class A division. Over the same time span, 11 private schools and 0 public schools have won basketball championships in the Boys Class A division.
Thus, 22 Class A titles have been contested, and private schools have won 21 of them. Mathematically, private schools have an approximately 44% chance of winning a Class A state title. Despite these odds, over the last 11 seasons private schools have captured over 95% of the PIAA State Class A Basketball Championships. "
thats a sickening statistic, what a joke. Congrats catholic schools, beating up on small schools who only can field your level of talent once ever ten years. What a great accomplishment!

Once again the private supporters give compelling and well thought out responses to the real evidence!

Tradition? How much did we hear from Delone Catholic or York Catholic prior to 2003? Suddenly one of those two has been in the girls AA state championship game every single year since 2003? What defines "tradition"???

pats and oldguy,
Please give your address and I will send you a trophy.
The Catholic schools rule in sports because they are what we (public schools) used to be -- Committment, discipline, academics, pride, strong centralized leadership, responsibility and accountability. Sure you still have some tremendous committed teachers and coaches at public schools, but the structure of the public education system does not allow for discipling, does not press for committment, does not demand responsibility or accountability --- for fear of idiot loser parents storming the principal's office and school board -- or lawsuits. PSEA doesn't help either. Pretty soon public school kids will be going 4 days a week.
Why should you or anyone denegrate parents who do not want to place their kids in such situations?

Re: PIAA State Finals--Again loaded with PRIVATE SCHOOLS!
sounds like you make a good point as to why the private/catholic schools SHOULD NOT even want to play a non-dedicated ,unaccountable, public school with no pride then. throw all the committed dedicated private and charter schools in their own playoff. let mccort, carrol, and guilfoyle play their own committed, disciplined, kind like archbishop wood, pw, gcc, etc. lets see how many titles they win then when they are playing in their private playoffs.psycho wrote:pats and oldguy,

Wait a minute fellas, by suggesting privates play up a classification or play other parochial schools, you are essentially asking them to do something that is ETHICAL. Have you read the headlines lately??? You will see kind of ETHICS their leaders possess. Suggesting they have more discipline and morals is ridiculous. They are a private school system. They can do what they want, always have, and always will. In the meantime, private fans will keep bragging when they win, and public fans will keep whining when we lose. There is nothing wrong with that is there???
Psycho - Since this thread is about basketball, please stop using it as a way to subliminally advance your political agenda. It is perfectly acceptable to argue whether or not privates should play publics because they do in fact play each other. But to continually advocate some type of militaristic doctrine about education is inappropriate. To suggest that all of high school sports' problems would be solved by consolidating schools and cutting your taxes is one of the most uneducated things I have ever heard. If you don't like the "big" tax bill you get every year - move or sell your property. We'd be a much better society with more schools and teachers, not less. So, please take it to the HOB or start your own Johnstown Militia site.
But psycho - if in fact you do decide to stay and dig an even deeper hole for yourself, please stop for a minute and take a trip in the Hot Tub Time Machine to the 2030 BleacherCoaches basketball thread. I've been there and all I can tell you is that it is a pretty quiet place. The few remaining fans are having an interesting debate about the four consolidated basketball teams in the area (Somerset Regional, Bedford County, Blair Regional, and Johnstown-Cambria Cambria County Regional - which by the way is now located at Vo-Tech, go-figure) are still getting beat by the lone remaining private school in the area - Bishop KickYourAss. Oh and yes, Vman still does drive a wahmbulance so he can come and rescue you when you have fallen into a consolidated school argument and can't get out.
