Re: Santonio Holmes to the Jets???
Absolutely baffled by this. But, he was facing a suspension once again and off the field problems.
This better work out. I don't care how many off the field problems a guy has, a Super Bowl MVP is worth more than a 5th round pick.

I would agree Ham. while he is a moron, if you are gonna pull the trigger on this deal get us something better than a 5th round pick. At the same time not so sure the organization should look the other way when it comes to off field problems. If they keep doing that where does it end? with they be the NFL's Florida State or Penn State? Not sure you can blame this one on Obama or Dan.

Maybe this sends a message to their Kicker and QB that character counts?

Re: Santonio Holmes to the Jets???
This reminds me of the Randy Moss to the Patriots trade. The Raiders received a 4th round pick for Moss. He has two career tackles and is no longer with Oakland while Moss went out the next season and caught the single season record for touchdowns. The Steelers had to do something, but I thought they would get more in return than this for Stonetonio. The twittering about how he was going to "wake and bake" last week was probably the last straw. The only problem I really have is that I wish if they weren't going to get much for him that they had sent him to the NFC. Why would you make the Jets any stronger for such a small price? They have to be the favorite in the AFC heading into next season.

At first I thought this was a terrible trade also. But, if you really look it might not be that bad.
suspended for the first 4 games AND in the last year of his contract. WIth his off fiel issues you know a Dallas or Oakland would come throwing way more monay at him in FA then Pittsburgh ever would. So, really a player the is going to miss a quarter of the season and leave in FA they got a 5th rounder for. Prob. not as terrible as I originally thought.

Re: Santonio Holmes to the Jets???
I originally thought it was a bad idea, until I thought about that. Why have him waste a quarter of the season get him to the end of his contract and just lose him for nothing? Might as well get something out of it. 5th round draft pick does seem a bit under what they could have gotten, but still, it's better than nothing. This might hurt Pittsburgh's passing attack a little bit, but even Pittsburgh said they wanted to go back to the running game more.Lefteyelouie wrote:At first I thought this was a terrible trade also. The only bad thing about going back to the running game is I think this is more of a passing league now.

What if he went out and played 12 quality games this year and had not got into any more trouble? After that, you can slap the franchise tag on him and have him for another full season or trade him when his value is back to where it should be. I understand the move was due to off the field issues, but the Steelers got absolutely nothing for him.

Re: Santonio Holmes to the Jets???
Yeah, I mean if it was up to me, I definitely would have kept him until the end of the season. The Steelers organization can't blame getting rid of him for off the field issues, if that is the case, then why isn't Roethlisberger gone? I don't know.
