Bedford's Coaching position
Re: Bedford's Coaching position
I'm cautiously optimistic about this hire. If he is given a true chance, he has all the tools he needs to succeed.
I can't believe I'm about to say this, but I hope the OG is right.

Re: Bedford's Coaching position
Once again, all opinions are respected, however not always agreed with. I do agree that Bedford has some quality individuals on their teaching staff that would make quality coaches. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Coach Steele if hired and I wish him all the best. My problem is when someone is given two years to be "groomed" as a head coach and the time comes and he gets hosed. Also, Bedford County football is a whole lot different to me than Bedford football. Sorry if that sounds arrogant, but that is how I feel.
Here is another good one for you. When I found out Steve Slatcoff was teaching at Bedford, I was thrilled. He is arguably one of the better players to come out of this area in the past several years. When I went to a Bedford game this year, he wasn't on the sideline. I asked someone who is very well-informed of district happenings why this was and the exact quote was, "The administration told him he needed to get some more time under his belt before he becomes a varsity assistant."
Once again, it is what it is.

Re: Bedford's Coaching position
He was hired tonight for the science job and head football coaching position. They will start him out at $10,000 above the starting teacher salary for bedford, plus head football pay (about $8,000). They will not formally announce this until after next weeks meeting.

Grandhooper,
How in the world can you know so much? If this is all true, the board can not be happy that information leaks from a meeting that isn't the "official" board meeting. You've been right on with other things though, so I guess I will take your word for it.

Re: Bedford's Coaching position
I really doubt the portion on coaching pay. Smith, Swaim, and Shoemaker never made that much coaching, nor does their contract offer that much for any coaching position.

Re: Bedford's Coaching position
Ditto here on that too. $8000? Plus $10,000 above teacher pay on scale? Sounds like a grievance material to me for the union.

Re: Bedford's Coaching position
$10000 above starting salary could just be where he would be on step for his current level of experience and education according to the Bedford EA's contract.
$8000 is high, but could include other administrative tasks &/or weightlifting stipend.

Re: Bedford's Coaching position
You are exactly right. 10k above starting salary puts him where he was on step with tussey. 8k includes coaching salary plus strength/conditioning money. I think this is one of the reasons he is leaving Tussey, I heard he wanted paid for his time in the weight room.
Re: Bedford's Coaching position
Starting football salary at Bedford is $4,200. Maximum over the next teaching contract is $5,200
Weight lifting may be a couple hundred. It isnt listed in the teacher contract. But from what I heard it is very minimal. NOT a 4 digit salary!
Dont know how long steele has taught but if he has 4 years teaching exp. he will start teaching at step 5 - $42,242. 5 years exp - $43,369
This info was not hard to find. I asked my neighbor who teaches at Bedford and they looked it up in their contract.
Not sure where this 10 grand came from for coaching and lifting supervisor, but that info is incorrect. Like southpaw said, that is def grievance material if true.
