Yes they did interview other candidates for the science position.

Re: It's Official: Steele to Bedford
As I read through these posts I really think the OG is going to be reading the same sort of things in a few years when Don Bailey decides step down at Forest Hills. Who will take over such a storied program? Growing up and living Forest Hills Football, and having my children attend there now, I surely care about the program just as much (if not more) than the people posting in this topic.
However, when that day comes, I only have one wish: That the guy who takes over the Head Football Coach at Forest Hills is the BEST Coach for the job. Not where he came from, what he does, where he played, just the best coach for the job.
I have heard nothing but good things about Dan Baker. I can understand why people may be a little upset. But if you truly care about your program, you’ll cheer on Coach Steele and give the guy a chance to do things his way. The board must think pretty darn highly of him if they passed on Baker in favor of Steele.
Just sayin.

And the last thing I must tell you...NEVER QUIT!
Re: It's Official: Steele to Bedford
I would imagine that all of us who care about the program will indeed get on board and support Steele. Indeed, the greatest supporter will be Baker himself, who will remain an assistant coach. He cares only about one thing: the players. Except for H's little jab, no one has said a negative thing about Steele. People have a right to voice their opinions and question the selection itself. After all, this choice, when it came, stunned just about everybody.
It's just that I don't have enough faith in the board and administration to believe that they are truly able or willing to pick the best man for the job or to even know what that entails. If that seems jaded, I guess too many bad or questionable decisions have been made in the past to make me feel optimistic and trusting.
I would also suspect that when Bailey (a truly great coach who will difficult to replace) finally does hang it up, if someone is selected who doesn't have close ties to the FH program, no matter how how terrific his resume, is selected, there will be a heck of a lot more discontent there than Bedford supporters have shown. During his tenure, Bailey has produced a host of very good assistant coaches. I assume the faithful feel there will be no need to look elsewhere unless it's to bring someone back to the fold. But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe with the high expectations and sophistication of that program, they'll undertake a statewide search for a replacement.
Back to the Bedford situation: it's a sign of the general apathy of area residents that there have only been a handful of people make comments on BC -- and half of those have come from outside the area.

Come on now Tussey Mt. Fan? Are you serious?
Re: It's Official: Steele to Bedford
Coach Steele changed the face of TM football for sure...The kids started working hard, they quit making dumb penalties, they did the offseason stuff, and they got kids out for the program. Steele was exactly what Tussey needed a few years ago.

ha, ha, ha. I just don't think the mighty Bison fans like him or do they? Jet Sweep right and left will not work! Turn the page on the playbook if they even have a playbook! What is his all-time record vs the Panthers? What is his overall record? Go Panthers!!
