Franchise changer?
Pedro Alvarez gets the call for good to be a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Hopefully he is all he is cracked up to be, we haven't had this type of prospect since well Barry Bonds.
I think we have something with our 1,2,and 3 hitters(Tabata, Walker, McCutchen) and this guy can potentially be our cleanup. Tony Sanchez is a surprisingly good prospect at Catcher. Now if we decide to stop being cheap as hell, we can go out and buy some pitchers cause they aren't in our organization. I like the way things are turning. We have 4 guys under the age of 25 with star potential. We've had good players together at the same time, but never this young. We're in what? year 3 of the 5 year plan? Year 5 we may be good to go.

Pirates once again show their knowledge of handling minor league players by bring up their top gun and throwing him out against two lefties in his first 2 starts. Nothing like setting a guy up for failure. Any truth to the rumor that huintington won the Pirates GM job in a cracker jack box?

Another great Neal Huntingdon move turns to crap as the Pirates DFAed Dana Eveland today.
According to Huntingdon when Eveland was acquired he was an upgrade to the starting pitching, and based on how terrible the starting pitching is Huntingdon probably wasn't far off with that comment. As far as that goes Kris Benson would be an upgrade for this starting rotation. But how do you only give the guy two chances to pitch? Huntingdon gave up an average to above average prospect for Eveland so he must have really thought he was an upgrade when he got him. How come he wasn't given a chance?
Someone needs to explain this move to me.
How low can this franchise go? They are playing .210 baseball in the month of June. Their starting line up has four guys with less than a year's experience and one guy with just over a year's experience. Their starting pitching is absolutely terrible and has won 3 games in the last 33 games. One of their top prospects has a fractured jaw and has to have surgery and could miss the rest of the season. It wouldn't totally surprise me to see one of the pitching prospects at AA develop arm trouble in the near future and require tommy john surgery.
Did the curse of the Bambino get passed to the Pirates?

Did anyone read the Altoona Mirror article in Sundays paper regarding Alvarez? Huntingdon DID NOT deem him ready to be brought up. In fact, according to the article, he didn't want to bring him up yet. But, someone over Huntingdon sent for him to be brought up. Huntingdon had no idea he was being brought up!!! That is how bad things are with the Pirates.
